Payload has been changed to GSAT-29 as mentioned on the official mission page: https://www.isro.gov.in/gslv-mkiii-d2-gsat-29-mission

Can a mod update the thread title to GSAT-29 instead of GSAT-20?

GSAT-29 is configured around ISRO’s Enhanced I-3K Bus and  will be the payload for second developmental flight of GSLV-MkIII. It carries Ka x Ku multi-beam and optical communication payloads for the first time. The mission targets for Village Resource  Centres (VRC)  in  rural  areas  to  bridge  the  digital divide.

ISRO Chairman confirms the launch of GSLV MK-III in 2018 with the heaviest ever payload of nearly 4 tonne

Quote
Meanwhile, ISRO chairman AS Kiran Kumar said the space agency is facing the busiest year ahead with a cluster of launches lined up, which include Chandrayaan-2 in March. ISRO also plans to launch the second flight of GSLV MkIII, carrying the heaviest payload ever. The last successful GSLV MkIII launch was carried out on June 5, carrying a 3.2 tonne GSAT-19 communication satellite.

"This time, we are looking to launch a communication satellite of GSAT series which will be close to the 4-tonne class. It will carry new versions of optical communication and high frequency Q&V band." he said.

Launch is targeted for May.

Quote
The 5,725-kg satellite, which will carry 40 transponders in the Ku-band and Kaband frequencies, is capable of “providing high bandwidth connectivity” with up to 14 gigabit per second (gbps) data transfer speed. “We will launch Gsat-11 from the European spaceport as it’s a fivetonne satellite. Around the same time in May, Isro will launch Gsat-29 through our GSLV Mk III rocket from Sriharikota. We also plan to launch Gsat-20 from India by next year,” the Isro chief said.

I don't really think these schedule launch times really mean anything now. ISRO  really need  to work on their PR
anyone says anything randomly stating we will do x in y month which later slips. From Agugst 31 till now ISRO done
one launch i,e PSLV C40. If  heat shield separation   failure can put any space agency that much on back foot  this is highly unlikely  that international customers are really going to be pleased with this approach.

Personally i dont think this will go up any time before june due to slips with F-08 launch campaign. Hopefully things pick up in the second half of this year with all of the new gen satellites they have lined up for launch.

These types of delays are completely normal, especially as GSLV Mk.III is still in the development phase.

According to statements made by isro officials during post launch speeches of GSLV-F08 the launch campaign of GSLV MK-3 D2 has begun at SLP. The S200 motors are currently being assembled at SSAB facility of second launch pad.

No word yet on that, though they have made statements that they do intend to raise the thrust of L-110 stage in future missions.

ISRO has stated they intend to use HTVE engines for the L-110 from D2 mission onwards

Congrats to team ISRO on placing IRNSS-I in orbit. Is now the next launch from SHAR, the GSLV MKIII with GSAT-29 ? Could someone tell me what is the purpose of this satellite, GSAT-29 ? Is it for telecommunications? Television broadcasting ? DTH ? Thanks.

From what is known from DoS Annual Report, GSAT-29 is an experimental satellite that has a payload for optical communication, communication transponders in Q/V and Ku/Ka bands, as well as a high-resolution GEO imaging camera (GHRC).

The optical communication payload would likely be experimental in nature and maybe of domestic or Israeli origin. The latter is a possibility as ISRO had signed an agreement with the Israeli Space Agency last year that included optical communications as an area of interest. GHRC might be meant to test GEO high resolution imaging ahead of GISAT launch next year, or it may serve some strategic purpose like the Chinese Gaofen-4. These are just my guesses. So take it with a pinch of salt.. ;)

It is mainly a testbed for future high throughput communication satellites. The optical payloads could be early versions of cameras that will fly on GISAT-1 in 2019.

Now that GSAT-11 is being called back, one can expect more delays as far as GSAT-29 is concerned. I guess they might want to check on this before sending it up...
