Here's an interview with ISRO Chairman K Radhakrishnan in which he mentions that India will launch its Geo Imaging Satellite in 2016-17:

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bangalore/GISAT-set-for-2016-17-launch-ISRO-chairman/articleshow/17907924.cms

Also discussed are ISRO's plans for bringing in the private sector.

GISAT imaging instrument to be fabricated in SAC, Ahmedabad

Quote
The critical imaging instrument of the ambitious GEO Imaging Satellite (GISAT) is being developed in Ahmedabad. Space application Centre (SAC) director padma shri AS Kiran Kumar told that the payload is capable of visible infrared imaging and Hyperspectral imaging, which are critical to the functioning of the GISAT.

I just noticed that GISAT is meant to be injected directly into GEO and has no Apogee propulsion system (Source). If so, I believe this would be the first time ISRO attempts a direct GEO insertion for is spacecrafts. Any idea if they are planning to use PAM-G for this?

It seems so:

GISAT spacecraft is configured using I1K bus compatible with PAM-G/GSLV launch vehicle.

Just for clarification, when they refer to "I1K bus" - are they referring to a physical chassis or frame? Because when I think of "bus" I think of a communications bus, which probably wouldn't be relevant for PAM-G unless its meant to communicate with it.

"Bus" referrs in this context to the satellite structure, propulsion system, AOCS, power systems etc. - essentially all satellite systems except for the payload.

The I1K bus to be used here is a (more or less) standardized satellite bus, which has already been used for communications, navigation and meteorology missions.

Cross-posting GISAT info from K210's post

Upcoming GISAT-1 and GISAT-2 : http://nrsc.gov.in/sites/all/pdf/GISAT-UIM-3Jan2016_V3_Alok_2.pdf

I wonder why the GISAT mass is given in the above presentation as 2100 kg ( dry mass 1100 kg).  Have they changed the design to use a LAM, instead of PAM-G for orbital insertion?

EDIT: Appear to be so. LAM is marked in the diagram in slide 27.

According to ISRO's highly placed sources, the launch of GISAT-1 is expected by the end of this year. It will be launched by GSLV MARK-2 rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Center at Sriharikota. ISRO has given priority to this satellite, prioritizing future missions. After the launch of CARTOSAT-03 by the end of October, the GISAT mission will be emphasized.

What does the "GM" stand for?

What does the "GM" stand for?

Guidance Margin ensures enough propellant is available incase some extra burn is deemed necessary to achieve the required altitude and range at GS2 cut off. In case of nominal performance, the leftover propellant at GS2 cut off would be 607kg and that results in the spent stage impact location as mentioned.

So this implies that the CUS propellants are to be fully burned to achieve 170x35975 orbit.

Another question to ask: does the fairing’s new ogive shape have to do with weight reduction?

Something’s telling me that the new fairing is being constructed with lightweight material.
SECO confirmed. Nominal orbit insertion.
