PSA #1: Suppress forum auto-embed of Youtube videos by deleting leading 'www.' (four char) in YT URL; useful when linking text to YT, or to avoid bloat.
PSA #2: EST does NOT mean "Eastern".  Use "Eastern" or "ET" instead, all year, and avoid this common error.  Google "EST vs EDT".  *** two more in profile ***

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday that directs the Federal Aviation Administration to lift the 52-year ban on supersonic flight over U.S. soil, marking a major policy shift that occurred just weeks after lawmakers introduced bipartisan legislation with the same aim. The order instructs the FAA to end the overland supersonic ban and create noise-based certification standards, allowing faster-than-sound travel as long as no audible sonic boom reaches the ground.

“The reality is that Americans should be able to fly from New York to LA in under four hours,” Michael Kratsios, the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, told reporters Friday.

Breaking the sound barrier, again. Today,
@realDonaldTrump
issued an executive order that effectively lifts the 52-year ban on civil supersonic flight over land in the U.S. It directs the FAA to repeal the supersonic speed limit as long as aircraft don’t produce an audible sonic boom on the ground.

Thank you, President Trump, for unlocking the future of faster and quieter travel.

How a Startup SOLVED The SONIC BOOM Problem!

Quote
Oct 11, 2025

The Supersonic Dream is Back! In this episode, we visit Boom Supersonic’s headquarters to explore the XB-1, the first independently developed supersonic jet — and the testbed for Overture, a full-size commercial airliner that will let passengers fly faster than the speed of sound.

We sit down with Boom’s chief engineers and test pilots to learn how they’re designing the future of flight — from advanced composite fuselages and external vision systems to Symphony, their in-house-built jet engine ready for sustainable aviation fuel.

Superpower is Boom’s 42-megawatt natural gas turbine built to power AI data centers. The same supersonic technology drives both the Superpower turbine and Boom’s Symphony jet engine: an all-new engine core designed for sustained and efficient high power output, even in challenging thermal conditions.

Boom Supersonic raises $300M to build natural gas turbines for Crusoe data centers [Dec 9]

Quote
Crusoe will buy 29 of Boom’s 42-megawatt turbines for $1.25 billion to generate 1.21 gigawatts for its data centers. Boom said it will announce more details about a turbine factory next year, with first deliveries occurring in 2027.

Profits from the sale of Superpower units will go toward funding continued development of the company’s Overture supersonic aircraft, Boom founder and CEO Blake Scholl told TechCrunch.

Baker Hughes Secures 1.21 Gigawatt Generator Order to Power Boom Supersonic’s AI Data Center Solution [Feb 24]

Quote
Baker Hughes announced Tuesday an award to supply 25 BRUSH Power Generation electric generators, along with Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs) and cubicles to Boom Supersonic. These specialized generators will be paired with Boom’s innovative 42 megawatt (MW) Superpower natural gas turbines to deliver highly efficient and reliable electricity for advanced AI data centers.

Building on a prior agreement signed in 2025 for six BRUSH Power Generation electric generators, these units will collectively deliver 1.21 gigawatts (GW) of onsite electricity capacity for Boom’s anchor customer, Crusoe. Boom’s Superpower natural gas turbine, derived from its supersonic engine core design originally developed for supersonic flight and now being applied for the AI data center industry, leverages its sustained, efficient high-power output. Paired with Baker Hughes’ BRUSH™ Power Generation 2-pole DAX 7 air-cooled generators, the combined units will provide flexible, reliable baseload power essential to the data centers required for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

[...]

BRUSH™ Power Generation DAX generators are 2-pole, air-cooled units renowned for their high efficiency, flexibility, and lower total cost of ownership. These units are specifically engineered to meet demanding operational requirements, with a proven track record from over 3,500 active installations worldwide. Including six generators already on order, Boom has now placed firm orders for 31 generators totaling 1.3GW, with deliveries starting mid 2026 through 2028.

Another video article on using their engines to generate electricity. Not a new technology; many cruise ships use them to generate power for the  Azipods (Azimuth Podded Drives) and the entire ship.

snip...

To put it mildly! :)
The first such commercial installation was in 1959.

Good for them though; branching out into new markets with much more likely near-term returns than an SST.
