In other news, I didn't know that Elon's favorite non-SpaceX rocket was the Zenit! I have long joked elsewhere about how similar the Zenit and F9 are in basic design (size/diameter, all kerolox to GTO, simple work flow, TEL and clean pad design, even the reuse concept that the Energia booster would have) and ground processing methods (e.g. while writing about a Zenit launch during a time we all anxiously wait for the public appearance of the v1.1 somewhere else, I joked right from the start with "Hey look, it's the new Falcon 9 v1.1!"......followed by a Zenit-3 photo.  (see below) ;) ;)), but I am still surprised that he admires a Soviet origin rocket the most!  :o

Even more amazingly, IIRC Musk started SpaceX after his unhappy attempt to struck a deal to fly his Martian Greenhouse on (what I think is) the Dnepr rocket.......which is built in the very same place as with the Zenit by Yuzhnoe!  :o

Whoa. That escalated quickly! ;D

It's a positive time, so rather than trawling back through a sudden flood of report to mods...

Keep Calm and Falcon Heavy.

--

People ignored this, so now I'm trimming the thread. You only have yourselves to blame! :)

Thread title helps you. "SpaceX FH : Falcon Heavy Demo : early 2018 : Discussion" <---we have threads for general FH stuff and most of it was about comparing with Shuttle, which is both wrong and totally not on topic.

Sent most of the longer off topic posts back to the members who created them. Personally I'd let you all go nuts, but people complain, lots of people.

For a short while there today when the "FH demo mission discussion thread" became "FH vs. STS?  Which could lift more payload and do it more economically? (Thread 96,214)".

EDIT: quoting Chris' comment for context
The best part was Shuttle derailing a SpaceX thread, when was the last time that ever happened..? :o ;D

"The Flying Cars and Landing Rockets Party Thread"

(Only two characters longer than the Manifest thread title, so it should be a cromulent length.)

Yes, we are at last entering the flying car age.  8)

Sea Launch is not impressed. The platform is just a cheap-looking barge. And who in his right mind would launch a rocket without second stage and payload?

This meme needed an update.

For sure there will be people better at this. Consider it a challenge to come up with a better version :-)

From the Poll on how Heavy will turn out:
[FH will]...put the roadster in a useful orbit.

Just what is the usefulness criteria for the orbit of a used Tesla Roadster?   ;D

I'm sure Lar just meant a viable orbit or one that would be useful for a hypothetical payload, but the wording tickled me.

Maybe the car could be used as a reflecting target (minutes in and minutes out) for a distance-measuring laser. (In spite of it being mostly a convex surface...) Perhaps someone in a physics department may be interested in direct measurements of a gravity field in a five-body environment. (Talking out of my rear end here, as usual.)

P.S. And if not... I can see the amateurs coming...

What are the chances Zuma is a total mind job and with todays announcemen,  it's actually going polar.

After all, it is best over ice.

Basically, it's obvious Friday is off, but it's still on the pad this morning and there's claims there may be another WDR taking place right now.

Working on it (the info). Will see if SpaceX will say something. Zuma Rules make this hard.

The first rule of Zuma Club is [REDACTED].

On the East coast right now you can just open your front door, scoop some up and pour for "snow cones"... :D

So that's why they've created the weather bomb on the east coast, cover! Damn sneaky.

I've posted a couple of times declaring that I would become one of the faithful beyond return if the FH ever flew. Made a purchase today...
Do not drink until booster recovery... ;D

Even if the side boosters have been mistakenly programmed to land in the same place I think it should still be seen as a success as long as the centre core is recovered.
Stranger things have happened.

So Elon,  you're confusing me a bit.

The Heavy is clearly NOT a 'Falcon'... It looks MUCH more like a 'Y-Wing'! ;D

Does it come in yellow?

Obviously they need to program in some collision avoidance, perhaps some Tesla lane control.
Wildly optimistic prediction, Superheavy recovery on IFT-4 or IFT-5
