I visited there in 2014. Some great displays and friendly people.
The Accelerated Investment Project (AIP) is an ambitious plan aimed at renovating the ESTEC campus, with emphasis on sustainability and functionality. Witteveen+Bos and SBGA Blengini Ghirardelli were entrusted with the design.
Last weekend ESA-ESTEC joined in the celebrations for one of the world’s largest spring festivals – the Bloemencorso Bollenstreek – to celebrate 50 years of ESA in the Netherlands. Many of ESTEC’s employees joined local residents and businesses to decorate and parade an 8-metre long model of Europe’s most powerful launcher: Ariane 6.Each year the south of Holland, where ESA-ESTEC is based, hosts one of the world’s largest spring festivals to celebrate the iconic flowers that cover the region. As part of the festival a 42-km long parade of flower-covered floats runs through the weekend, from Noordwijk to Haarlem. The floats are sponsored by local businesses who compete to cover their floats in the most fun, vibrant decorations that still give an essence of their own mission.More than 70 colleagues dedicated their time last week to decorating the ESA float, which held a huge animatronic model of Ariane 6. Despite some initial fears that this year’s late spring would mean too few white flowers were available to cover the rocket, the blooming Ariane 6 came together and proudly joined the parade on Friday where it was seen by more than 1.3 million spectators. Many thanks to all our colleagues, those that helped decorate and that turned out to support our float. Thanks also to our partners at NL Space Campus, NSO, FC Lisse and Space Expo.
