I'm starting to think that after several pages of discussion mostly devoted to the growth of a plant and birds, with a little parking lot construction thrown into the mix, that SpaceX's plans may have changed W/R/T constructing a space port on Boca Chica. The last set of new positions SpaceX advertised were mostly for the LA plant and Florida's launch site. The only positions posted for Texas were in McGregor. None for Boca Chica.Anyone have any reliable sources that are recent as to whether SpaceX still plans on constructing this site on Boca Chica?

Are you not aware of Elon time? This is Rocket Science. It's hard. This far out, all timetables will almost certainly slip.

Quote from: Robotbeat on 06/05/2018 03:48 amThose don't look like rolls, but instead insulated pipes.A possible non-fuel use: Could they be used to run coolant fluid over the LNA on the antennas to keep them at a steady state temperature? Used to be that if LNAs aren't kept at a steady temperature the frequency would drift all over.

We can reduce the [resistor thermal] noise by reducing the resistance (this may increase current and/or power consumption), but reducing the temperature is not usually practicable (if we cool a resistor from room temperature (298K) to liquid nitrogen temperature (77K), its noise voltage is still more than half its room temperature value). And, of course, we can't change Boltzmann's Constant because Professor Boltzmann is dead.
Why do we call schedule delays Elon time? SLS and Orion are behind schedule. Happens in nearly every industry. This isn't unique to Elon. If BFS initial testing is like Grasshopper testing, SpaceX will need a big concrete pad and support equipment. Won't take too long to build.

It doesn't say anything about BFS testing, or when they plan to use the South Texas site for BFR. It also doesn't say anything about Boca Chica Beach, so it could be an offshore launch platform. The second link says they plan to start testing BFS soon, and mentions McGregor, Brownsville, and ship-to-ship as options.

Our South Texas launch site will be dedicated to BFR, because we get enough capacity with two launch complexes at Cape Canaveral and one at Vandenberg to handle all of the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy missions.
Well, like Opportunity and her solar array dust devils, the rain seems to have done a good job cleaning the camera lens. Nothing new to take pictures of, but it's a lot better quality nothing. There has been half a dozen or so vehicles wandering in and out of the areas, with people standing around pointing at stuff and talking, so here's hoping for some real activity.
