Governments to be major customers of future Axiom Space private astronaut missions
Quote
That is the decision of the customer, said Michael Suffredini, chief executive of Axiom. “We work very hard to meet their needs, and they have chosen to wait a little while to announce their crew,” he said. “I think in the next week or two there will be an announcement of the specific individuals.”

From that same article: "In a call with reporters Jan. 30, Axiom Space executives said ..."  I've learned to listen very closely when Suffredini speaks.  Has that briefing showed up online somewhere?  Axiom doesn't have it in their Youtube account, nor can I find it in Youtube.

In that same article, it said: "During a panel discussion Jan. 31 at the 18th Ilan Ramon International Space Conference in Tel Aviv, Israel, that included all four Ax-1 astronauts" and Michael L-A talked about getting assigned to Ax-1 and about future flights.  That panel discussion is here, at the 1h55m24s point: https://youtube.com/watch?v=-dFqCSlwp4k&t=1h55m24s
Isn't this what you are looking for? Two or three posts upthread?

The article you quote was the 1st Feb. Its now two weeks... and the revealing post above came out yesterday - as expected by the comment in 'your' article.

Is this the real one or someone has made a fan art ? Looks strange to me that the continents are from an Earth side where America is not visible.

I am a bit surprised that spacefacts.de puts these two guys in the "Private astronauts" bucket. These guys are part of a state-sponsored activity. Shoffner, yes, but these two are more like Sultan bin Salman Al Saud.

Possibly because their flight is conducted via a private company, not via the space agencies of the ISS program.

But certainly this is debatable. These astronauts are the first state astronauts flying via a private venture.

And there might be more to come, Turkey, Italy, Hungary.

Sultan Al Neyadi on Crew-6 was also through Axiom with some kind of three way exchange between NASA, the Roscosmos and Axiom.

I've just changed it. The four people from Saudi Arabia are now in the "International" section.

This is a point that is underappreciated in my opinion, especially from a US-centric view. Any country that does not have domestic HSF capabilities and wants more than cozying up to NASA in the hope of someday maybe flying an astronaut to space will be counted as "commercial" in the sense of "not NASA/US gov". Whenever people in the US) talk about the potential for commercial HSF and space stations, they seem to look at private tourist. But there is room for a dozen ISS and Artemis sized private programs just in highly developed nations HSF ambitions. In buying two seats with Axiom, the Saudi space program has already gotten more access to ISS crew than all but six countries, when they spend decades and billions sweet-talking NASA into giving them a seat. The moon will be even more extreme with less than one foreign seat available per year.

If it was an official patch it would also be a bit funny that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is being burnt to a black crisp by the F9 rocket exhaust.... :-)

Nice work, btw, Lukas! That´s a cool hobby.

Hey, I’ll take it. Cooperation with the US as fellow “monotheist” as opposed to Christianity vs Islam clash of civilizations. Maybe we can do even better next time…

(Unless they think the US is Tritheist… which they might.)

A point to consider; the content of this astronaut's Twitter account may need a censor's approval before hitting the SEND button.  This is going to be the case for all astronauts who fly for a nation without First Amendment rights, or the rough equivalent thereof.

Let's keep discussion of this flight focused on spaceflight.  The intersection of politics, spaceflight, and faith should be discussed in "Space Policy," if at all.

I would say not at all. That tweet really contained nothing of value, so going forward, I would suggest just not posting that sort of stuff (goes for Americans too). Just keeps the SNR of the forum up, which is already tough, considering how much we all like arguing about the stuff that is actually on topic.
Launches attended: Worldview-4 (Atlas V 401), Iridium NEXT Flight 1 (Falcon 9 FT), PAZ+Starlink (Falcon 9 FT), Arabsat-6A (Falcon Heavy)
Pilgrimaged to: Boca Chica (09/19 & 01/22)

The point of my post was to indicate that these guys have both a twitter account, and to provide the link for anyone interested on this forum. Also that this account was created in September, which is hinting that the final selection was way before announcement.

I took a random one in English language to show that. To be honest, I did not even read it in detail (I missed the contentious part). Next time I will just provide the twitter user ID.
