The crew of Inspiration4 stopped by @SpaceX's Dragonland in Florida to check out their ride and go for a “Dragon Test Drive.” Final preps for the crew, spacecraft, and rocket continue ahead of liftoff in 15 days!
The first episode of How it Happened: The Next Astronauts is out today. Listen here or wherever you get your podcasts: https://www.axios.com/how-it-happened-next-astronauts-part-1-250448ac-c289-48aa-a3e1-cfde1d6ae494.html
A look at Dragon’s Cupola, which will provide our Inspiration4 astronauts with incredible views of Earth from orbit! The crew visited the flight-hardware Cupola in California before it was shipped to Florida for integration with Dragon Resilience.
I have never seen a more innovative & impressive organization than @SpaceX . Six months from idea to fully analyzed and flight-ready hardware!..They are making science fiction a reality each day and @inspiration4x is proud to be a very small part in the history they are making.
Oh please tell me you will have a camera mounted in the cover to look at the Cupola from the outside.
My unofficial interpretation of the official @inspiration4x dome. What a view they will have, a view like no one has seen before.

In part two of How it Happened: The Next Astronauts, Axios space reporter Miriam Kramer unpacks who historically has been able to go to space and why the selection of Inspiration4 crew members Sian Proctor and Hayley Arceneaux is a break from the status quo.Kramer shares what she asked Elon Musk in 2020 as the Dragon capsule flew humans for the first time on the same day of nationwide Black Lives Matter protests — and how he answered. She learns Proctor's story, from her birth in Guam where her father was a contractor for the Apollo 11 mission to becoming a NASA astronaut finalist and to her chance to make history as the first Black female pilot of a spacecraft.Kramer also explores Arceneaux's story, told by Hayley and her mother, of Hayley overcoming childhood cancer, becoming a physician assistant for the hospital that treated her, and getting the opportunity to be the first person in space with a prosthesis.

9.04.2021Inspiration4 ‘Go’ for First All-Civilian Orbital Mission to SpaceHAWTHORNE, CA, September 3, 2021 – Teams from SpaceX and Inspiration4 met yesterday at SpaceX’s headquarters in Hawthorne, California to evaluate the readiness of the Falcon 9 rocket, Dragon spacecraft, ground systems, recovery assets, crew training, and other key elements of SpaceX’s human spaceflight system for Inspiration4 – the historic first all-civilian human spaceflight mission to orbit. Upon conclusion of the Flight Readiness Review, teams are proceeding toward a targeted launch on Wednesday, September 15 UTC (September 14 EDT) from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. A backup launch opportunity is available on Thursday, September 16 UTC (September 15 EDT). Both 24-hour launch windows start at 12:00 a.m. Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).Approximately three days before liftoff, SpaceX will narrow down the launch window to five hours based upon weather conditions at the launch site, along the ascent corridor, and at landing locations off the coasts of Florida for a safe return of the crew and splashdown a few days later. The Inspiration4 crew – consisting of Mission Commander Jared Isaacman, Mission Pilot Dr. Sian Proctor, Medical Officer Hayley Arceneaux, and Mission Specialist Chris Sembroski – are scheduled to arrive in Florida on Thursday, September 9 to begin final preparations for their mission. For background on the Inspiration4 crew, see the original crew announcement from March 2021 as well as crew bios at https://inspiration4.com/crew. Since the March 2021 announcement, the Inspiration4 crew has focused extensively on mission training and preparation, spending the past six months completing a wide range of training activities including centrifuge training, Dragon simulations, observations of other SpaceX launch operations, Zero-G plane training, altitude training and additional classroom, simulation and medical testing. This focused preparation was essential in team development and being ready to execute their role as the first commercial crew to orbit the Earth. What does quarantine life look like for me 10 days before launch?Studying, relaxing, enjoying. As super excited as I am to reunite with my crew and family in a few days, it’s been great to have some quiet time (with Scarlett 🐕🦺) in between training and pre-launch activities
