Since SpaceX is going to do a world first recycling of an orbital class booster stage, its time to recycle the NSF SpaceX Landing Bingo!!!

CRS-8 Was Great, so the booster is set to fly once more in SES-10 HERE WE GO AGAIN. Will the streak continue? Will Optimus Prime have a tantrum and throw the booster overboard? Your guess is as good as anyone's as we play!

SHOTGUN START IN EFFECT

Due to improved landing accuracy and to ensure a fairer attempt for all players at the most important center squares, this bingo iteration will have a shotgun start.

Only picks placed after 0700 PDT, (1400 GMT) March 26th 2016, as logged by the board will count. NOW OPEN!!

Expect a land rush, so accurate clocks, alarm setting and game play must be considered as editing your pick after placement is still not allowed. So if everyone immediately goes after the same center square not everyone is going to get it and by the time you refresh the board or look at the scraper it may be too late, so tactically picking other than the absolute middle at the outset might be the better option ;)

Except for the shotgun start... the  game remains exactly as played in prior iterations. If its not broke don't fix it. :)

 - CRS-8 ( http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=39977.0 )
 - JCSAT-14 ( http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=40219.0 )

Pick your square, one per player. Closest square to the center engine when it comes to a halt gets the prize!

This includes post landing walkabouts and Roomba machinations.

No prize for fireballs, debris, or damage on deck!

If it hits the ship, goes kaboom, punctures holes in the deck, falls over in transit, or splashes down in the sea, there is no winner. Only a booster standing tall and triumphant as the ASDS sails into the harbor will generate a win!

Water squares are meaningless, if falls in the sea, no winners - no prize. Feel free to pick a water square just for "I told you so" bragging rights if you wish! ;)

This thread remains the official record of who chose what square when. For that reason any edited pick post is invalid.

Use Dan's scraper to see which spots have gone:

http://asds.dansdoorway.com

NOTE: There may sometimes be a slight delay of a few minutes at most between scraper updates, so check the last few posts before yours too, just to be sure. Scraper is operational as of this edit.  Thanks to DanielW for setting the scraper up, it helps a lot!

Judging is by me, Helodriver using imagery of OCISLY sailing back into the harbor to help determine a winner. Rocketcams, helicopter or drone shots, and landing coverage will also be used, but where it sits at the time of unloading will be final.  Post landing movements by Roomba, if such a thing is possible, will definitely add a twist of uncertainty. :)

Winner gets a SpaceX artifact, which has been recycled from its original purpose into a suitable prize. Winner also gets a one year L2 membership for free. If a current L2 member, you can donate it to another member (or add it to your own term length).

Good luck SpaceX, Good luck SES-10, and Good luck to NSF readers!

OK, this begins in one hour from now (check the timestamp per your timezone). Personally think it's a bit crazy having a mad rush, but Helo set this up, so.... his bingo, his rules ;D

Hopefully not too many people jump at the same squares in the opening minutes (Sunday should help, site is quieter on a Sunday) and then you can just keep checking the scraper and the thread to see which ones are available.

DO NOT POST UNTIL THE TOP OF THE HOUR. JUST READ THE INSTRUCTIONS (did you see what I did there) ;)

NOW OPEN!! GO GO GO!!

It looks like only ten picks came in within the first minute. (and one at one minute before the start) so it wasn't a real "land rush" with lots of people writing routines to get in within the first second. On the other hand the way the grid is laid out there are only about twelve squares with moderate probability.
So we are dividing into three groups, the dozen really intent competitors, the vast majority who no longer participate, and my group, stragglers casually picking random squares just to join the group.
I just hope someone, and thereby everyone here, wins.

What kind of wastrels would dump a perfectly good booster in the ocean after just one use?

I cheer for both NASA and commercial space. For SLS, Orion, Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, Dragon, Starship/SH, Starliner, Cygnus and all the rest!
I was blessed to see the launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour on STS-99. The launch was beyond amazing. My 8-year old mind was blown. I remember the noise and seeing the exhaust pour out of the shuttle as it lifted off. I remember staring and watching it soar while it was visible in the clear blue sky. It was one of the greatest moments of my life and I will never forget it.

Only picks placed after 0700 PDT, (1400 GMT) March 26th 2016, as logged by the board will count. NOW OPEN!!

No fair!!! ..I'd have to have been awake at 1:00AM this morning to have any chance at this.

BTW, can someone remind me why we're still doing this when their landings are now so accurate they scorch the same piece of deck on every landing??  Short of a major screw-up, the winner (or at least a short-listed group of winners) is already known.
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine - however, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are
going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead.

You know that test in elementary school that has dozens of steps for filing out a form and then the last step is ignore all previous step and return the blank form?  I always fail that test...

Expect a land rush, so accurate clocks, alarm setting and game play must be considered as editing your pick after placement is still not allowed.

Yeah, I failed that test too.  But you missed the key point: it's the FIRST step that's important, to read through the whole test before you start answering the questions.

In your case, you trusted an inaccurate clock.  I've seen cell phone clocks be off by as much as 75 seconds, in spite of the fact that they get their time from the cell network which is supposedly GPS synced .

I couldn't be online for the start time, so I wasn't going to try this time.  But, I guess I'll take a low percentage shot anyway.  O-26

If more shotgun starts are contemplated for future games, I hope we can stagger the start times some.

The title of this thread and the name of the drone ship brings to mind that classic Scorpion song "Still Loving You".
If we'd go again, all the way from the start...
I don't know if launches have theme songs, but I can't get that one out of my head today.

So after a successful second landing we have another winner!

Many thanks to imgur user Steve Marr for the great drone shots of the booster removal from OCISLY!

After rotating and enhancing the images and analyzing the landing marks, and in particular the eight brackets fastened to the deck in their definitive pattern which nicely define the center of the booster and its relation to the painted circle and X the stopping spot has been determined.

In what is one of the more off center positions not caused by a peglegged booster lurching about the deck like a drunken pirate, a winner has been determined and its subzero788 with spot O-24!

O-24

Due to a series of recent near dead center landings, it seemed like all the chance had possibly left the game, but not this time, that loss of excitement will be for another day.  ;)

If subzero would kindly PM me a mailing address, I should have a prize out to him in a few weeks once I return home from Africa.

JCSAT-16 landing winner fishbait, I still owe you a prize too and will dispatch that around the end of the month as well! :)

Congrats to subzero788, congrats to CRS-8 SES-10, and congrats to Space-X for pulling off yet another world first in space exploration! :)

Thanks so much to Helodriver and Chris! (and of course Booster-23 for deciding to settle on my little patch ;D )

Looking forward to checking out all the juicy SpaceX stuff on L2! 8)

Congratulations subzero788! :) I dont participate in the landing bingo because I already have L2 access and dont want to take places for people who can actually benefit from the bingo. It always makes me happy to see that this strategy is not a waste (and someone with L2 get the win). It almost feels like a small victory! :) Have fun and enjoy!
