I have not watched season 1 despite having heard rave reviews. I figure I will watch it just before S2 is available in April. But I do like that they're including characters from Rogue One. Although I liked Rogue One a lot, it has its problems, including some characters who are a bit difficult to understand. What are they doing in the Rebellion? Andor can now provide a lot more context of how those people ended up where they did doing what they did.

Blackstar:
This is a well-crafted and produced adult version of Star Wars, and it’s finally here.

There are 12 episodes grouped into sets of three, each lasting around 50 minutes. Instead of watching them individually, plan for a viewing session of 2.5 to 3 hours. I recommend starting to watch one set each weekend four weeks before the launch of Season 2.

Yes, we're now getting Alan Tudyk as buddy K2SO, and Ben Mendelsohn as villain Orson Krennic, as well as Forest Whitaker as radical rebel faction leader Saw Guerrera

I have heard many raves. I do not doubt them. I don't have a good reason for not watching S1 other than I felt burned by Star Wars with The Force Awakens and then the rapid decline in quality of The Mandalorian. So although I know that Andor is much better, my soul was wary.

Krennic was in many ways a brilliant villain in Rogue One. I'm glad we will get more of him. Saw struck me as a guy who had fought so long he had gone crazy. But maybe he was always crazy.

You will not be disappointed. Forget the sequels; if you like Rogue One, then this is even better. It's a completely different Ditrector.

I, too, was let down by the sequel series.  To be fair, as a jaded know-it-all 15 year old I was disappointed by my heroes needing the help of teddy bears to beat the Empire in Return of the Jedi.  The Mandalorian, for me, started off great, but devolved as the series went on - even though I enjoyed The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series that the later seasons incorporated.  I did like Rouge One, even Solo, not enough to keep me an engaged fan of the franchise.  Ahsoka is ok, Skeleton Crew was actually pretty fun, and the other show isn't worth naming for me.  But Andor was very, very different.  It's been referred to as Star Wars for grown-ups, but many grown-ups enjoy all Star Wars.  What set it apart for me is that it is a fantastic piece of story telling that stands up to any piece of work, this one just happens to be Star Wars.  Top to bottom this show hits everything for me: writing, direction, acting (the casting director deserves an Emmy), set design, cinematography, score, effects, pacing - everything I can think of was spot on.  I'm rarely moved by fictional entertainment, but I certainly was by this show.  You can take the Star Wars out and the show would be incredible in any setting.  I don't recall being completely riveted by a simple conversation as I have with this show.  Season 2 looks like it'll have a slightly different feel judging by this first trailer, and I'm ok with that.  They've had to compress 5 years of events into 2 seasons, and season 2 is the last 4 years (that's why it's broken out into 4 sets of 3 episodes).  Waiting for season 2 of Andor is the only reason I kept my Disney+ subscription active.  If you haven't seen season 1, my bet is you'll find it recreational time well spent.

And Season 2 is the final season, which will conclude this series, as it takes us up to the events of the Rogue One movie.

Ah yes, just about everybody who was there at the time had that same experience--waiting three years after Empire in anticipation for Return, getting in the theater, and then gradually feeling all the hope and expectation fade like a leak in an airbed.

Season one took a bit to get going, but yes it definitely seems like "Star Wars for adults".  On the second try we're now onto episode 4 (I think?) but it's slow going--the only chance we have to watch is after our son goes to bed but before my wife falls asleep, so that's a 20-30 minute window.

Okay, so have they explained what his deal is? Was he always a bit of a nut, or was he driven nutty by the war?

BB Season 2: "Paths Unknown," which premiered on February 21, 2024

Okay, so have they explained what his deal is? Was he always a bit of a nut, or was he driven nutty by the war?

Summary:
Yes, his life is documented in all those series and is clearly explained.

During the Clone Wars, Saw Gerrera emerged as a hero dedicated to saving his planet from the Separatists. However, he suffered a tragic loss when his sister died due to the conflict. This event drove him towards the dark side, and he gradually became more militant. When he discovered that the Empire was manipulating both sides of the war, he became determined to undermine the Empire in any way he could.

In "The Bad Batch," Saw is seen helping refugees escape from the Empire. In "Rebels," he embarks on a mission to uncover the source of what the Empire is building—the Death Star. He learns that a massive Kyber crystal is powering it and finds evidence that the Geonosians, who initially constructed the Death Star, were exterminated by the Empire using toxic gas to cover up their operations. This traumatic experience resulted in lung damage for Saw, further intensifying his militant approach.

In the first season of Andor, we see Saw begin to recruit his own militants and try to find out what Luthen is up to.

In "Rebels," Saw argues with Mon Mothma about his aggressive tactics in fighting the Empire, which contrasts with the more subdued efforts of the Rebel Alliance. Finally, in "Rogue One," we see an older, weary, and dying Saw, reliant on a breathing machine.

His life is a poignant reminder of a once-great warrior who could have achieved so much more.

A great but highly underrated Star Wars character.

You need to start watching the animated series. They explain characters like Sabine, Ahsoka, Hera Syndulla, Ezra, Mon Mothma, and so many others we see in the original trilogy and Rouge One. In live-action, you might see these characters, but their backstories are often not explained unless you've taken the time to watch all the animated series beforehand.

FWIW, I've only seen ROGUE ONE but I don't feel I really needed to understand Saw's complete backstory to appreciate the character in ANDOR.

IMHO, ANDOR is the best Star Wars since ESB.  I literally stayed up until midnight to see the last episode of season 1 the second it was released, and was not disappointed.

Absolutely ccdengr.

Saw's appearance provides additional depth and issues with getting the rebellion to focus on the same goal and how it may derail Luthen's plans. Saw's mentality certainly didn't help Mon Motha's efforts. In the Last season of Bad Batch, Saw was indirectly responsible for Tec's death. It wouldn't surprise me that Saw will indirectly affect Luthen and possibly be accountable for his demise.

Although Luthen and Keno's monologue in the Prison Break episode was epic, I agree with your second comment; Marve's monologue was priceless and set up the rebellion on a public level. Watching Brasso hit the tropper with a brick was well worth waiting for.
