From: http://www.spacepatches.info/:
The Soyuz MS-08 crew patch design is shaped like the spacecraft's descent module as it looks during the landing phase of the ship's mission. Within, the crew is depicted in silhouettes as they approach their launch vehicle. A moon is shown behind the launch complex, representing the dream of manned missions into deeper space. Six stars in the background are for the six-member ISS crew. The 'Science' statue located in Baikonur and the tulip from the old coat of arms of Leninsk town symbolize the significance of the Russian launch base. The international space station is shown in bright yellow as the spacecraft's orbital destination. The crew names are shown in a semicircle at the top of the design, while the colours of the Russian and US flags are shown at the bottom, flanking the Roscosmos logo, underneath the spacecraft's name and crew expedition numbers. ROSKOSMOS. EMBLEM OF THE SHIP "UNION MS-08"
02/21/2018 10:10 AM
The commander of the main crew of the transport manned spacecraft Soyuz MS-08, the cosmonaut of ROSKOSMOSA Oleg ARTEMIEV spoke about the chosen emblem of the crew and explained the space symbols "encrypted" in it.
The shape of the descent vehicle, which was chosen for the crew's emblem, symbolizes the successful completion of the flight program. In the center we see the silhouette of the three members of the main crew: Oleg ARTEMIEV, Andrew FOIESTEL and Richard ARNOLD heading for the Soyuz-FG carrier rocket to go on a "space mission."
Behind the launch complex in the sky, the Moon and Mars are visible, which indicates the man's desire to explore the outer space. Six gold stars are the six crew members of the International Space Station. In the sky, the station itself is depicted - the target for docking a manned spacecraft.
The silhouette of the stele called "Science and space" (one of the symbols of Baikonur) and the tulip from the coat of arms of Leninsk (formerly called the city) recall the glorious history of the first "space harbor". This part of the composition is dedicated not only to the native city of Oleg ARTEMIEV, who is an Honorary Citizen and resident of Baikonur, but also to all people whose fate has come into contact with the largest cosmodrome in the world.
The lower border of the emblem is decorated with flowers of Russian tricolor, stripes in the colors of the US flag and the logo of ROSCOSMOS. Above the curb is the name of the spaceship and the numbers of the main expeditions in which the crew members will take part.
The launch of the Soyuz MS-08 manned spacecraft by the Soyuz-FG carrier rocket is scheduled for March 21, and now the main and backup crews successfully pass examinations at the Cosmonaut Training Center.

RELEASE 18-017
Two NASA Astronauts Among Crew Heading to International Space Station
Three crew members, including NASA astronauts Drew Feustel and Ricky Arnold, are on their way to the International Space Station after launching from the BaikonurCosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 1:44 p.m. EDT Wednesday (11:44 p.m. Baikonur time).
The Soyuz spacecraft carrying Feustal, Arnold and Oleg Artemyev of the Russian space agency Roscosmos is scheduled to dock to the space station’s Rassvet module at 3:41 p.m. Friday, March 23. Coverage of docking will begin at 3 p.m. on NASA Television and the agency’s website, followed at 5 p.m. by coverage of the opening of hatches between the spacecraft and station.
The arrival of Feustel, Arnold and Artemyev will restore the station's crew complement to six. They will join Scott Tingle of NASA, Expedition 55 Commander Anton Shkaplerov of Roscosmos and Norishige Kanai of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. The crew members will spend more than five months conducting about 250 science investigations in fields such as biology, Earth science, human research, physical sciences and technology development.
Shkaplerov, Tingle and Kanai are scheduled to remain aboard the station until June 2018, while Feustel, Arnold and Artemyev are slated to return to Earth in August.
This crew continues the long-term increase in crew size on the U.S. segment from three to four, allowing NASA to maximize time dedicated to research on the space station. Highlights of upcoming investigations include: a new facility to test materials, coatings and components of other large experiments in the harsh environment of space; a study on the effects of microgravity on bone marrow and blood cells produced in bone marrow; and a newly-developed passive nutrient delivery system for the Veggie plant growth facility.
Arnold, a former educator, will continue NASA’s Year of Education on Station, an initiative to engage students and educators in human spaceflight and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers.
For more than 17 years, humans have lived and worked continuously aboard the station, advancing scientific knowledge and demonstrating new technologies, making research breakthroughs not possible on Earth that will enable long-duration human and robotic exploration into deep space. A global endeavor, more than 200 people from 18 countries have visited the unique microgravity laboratory that has hosted more than 2,100 research investigations from researchers in more than 95 countries.

Their catching up, Thank You for the link to the tracking site.
I just wanted to verify, the astronauts/cosmonaut have been limited to the launch capsule for the last couple days? Looks like a taking a three day trip with two others in a 80s mini truck.

They have access to two modules: the descent module, which is where the seats are for ascent and descent; and the orbital module which is "above" the descent module. The orbital module contains the spacecraft toilet.
-
The Orbital Module also acts as the crew quarters; it even serves as an airlock should one of the cosmonauts perform an EVA from the Soyuz itself.

Such an EVA was performed on the Soyuz 4-5 crew transfer (and, of course, planned for Soyuz 1-2), but are you sure that an EVA with a modern EVA suit could be performed today via the orbital module's hatch?

No, it can not. I've asked Yuri Usachov about that a couple of years ago, and he gave me confirmation.
-
I thought the hatch was kept nowadays as an emergency method for evacuating the Soyuz (while docked/close to something else, of course), using the Sokols for a small amount of time. The hatch wouldn't be usable in most missions in any case, since the spacecraft doesn't normally carry Orlans.

AFAIK Sokol suites don't have any thermal control systems, so just few minutes under sunlight will cook anything inside. During nights it might be more tolerable, but only as absolutely last resort when there are no survivable alternatives.

According to the timeline, two first impulses already done, now Kurs (ISS and Soyuz) activation...
-
Impulse 3 made, taking the Soyuz on a path toward its ballistic targeting point.

Any ideas what is wrong with the Russian feed on http://online.roscosmos.ru/? Looks to be some error messages in the centre of the screen?
-
Our PAO Rob Navias from MCC-M
Range: 2km (as rob says...)
-
-
If they're only 2km away, they're about 10minutes AHEAD of the timeline. But NASA PAO saying docking time unchanged. So they're either farther away then 2km or docking will be quite early.
-
-
If I am reading the display correctly the range is 3.2 km.
-

If I am reading the display correctly the range is 3.2 km.
A bit late, but i didn't want to interrupt the docking coverage. Presumably this was a case of NASA confusing km for miles. Good thing they weren't at Mars!!
-
Probe retraction....
-
Relative motion dampening complete. Soyuz's hooks are driving into the ISS for hard dock.
-

No. There is no oxygen supply inside a Sokol. Without thermal control and without oxygen supply, you would save time to evacuate with normal clothes, with the same result (death).
