"Dave Cosnette, of the Cosmic Conspiracies Research Team, called for an “independent organisation to accompany Nasa” to confirm that the earlier Apollo moon landing missions actually took place.

Dr Peter Knight, an expert in con spiracy theories at the University of Man chester, said those who don’t believe the moon landings took place are unlikely to trust any new images sent back from the LRO.

“There are obsessives out there, and they will say that if the landings were faked in the first place, then any new digital images will be a hoax as well … for people trying to debunk the moon landings, any new information will probably just spur them on.”
