Pictures of the MPTA-098
« on: 06/29/2014 02:10 am »
I took these pictures at Space Camp in Huntsville. There is no information about it, and no one I asked knew what it was.

It might be from MPTA-098, but I'm not certain.

I remember seeing this when I was there. I think it is indeed the MPTA-098.

When I was there, I was told back in 2000 MPTA-098 got attached to Pathfinder. So the entire aft fuselage of 098 complete with real engines.

The External Tank used with MPTA was attached to Pathfinder. The Boattail ( the section pictured)  was converted into the Shuttle-C mockup in the early 90's and sat abandoned at MSFC for several years. In 2012, it was taken to the rocket park.

I remember seeing Shuttle-C sitting in the left side of a hanger about 20 years back or so. What a waste not to have followed up with it... :(

In 2005, I saw the "Shuttle-C" mockup outside in the MSFC boneyard, for those keeping track of its history.

Amazing such history hasn't been snapped up by collectors.

This is the only photo of MPTA-098 I can find.  Has anyone ever found others from the testing?

I suppose I should have asked if anyone has seen other photos of the truss part of MPTA-098.  Or drawings?  I have an urge to build a model of it.
