The original films are of historical and cultural significance.

This should do very well if they can sell it despite the horror alien title, there are not too many hits for movies and not too much scifi tv this year so I think there is an opportunity. However 'horror' as a genre can struggle, sometimes a difficult sell. It can be successful if the production is cheap or if word of mouth is good The Sixth Sense,  World War Z, 'Sinners' for example. The Twilight Zone had some 'horror' episodes and its a timeless classic and Walking Dead was successful until people got bored and nobody watched it anymore.

I can almost understand some fans critics in a way and see why some are critical of the 'missing style' the old Horror Art Dark Goth Aesthetic of 'Giger' missing. The originals were big products of art and acting achievements, iconic performances by the original actors and actress. The original Aliens movies had huge atmosphere scores by Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner,  Jeff Russo a guitarist with a myspace page might not be as big as previous Hollywood giants but it is amazing what you can do with computers and software and your own little studio these days to make an Orchestra type atmosphere sound. People might complain the trailer does not look like the aesthetic of the original, the Alien and Aliens movie it was horrific human shapes, fish and insect and machine blending into these "biomechanical" shapes the horror visions of H. R. Giger, you can see Giger style in art he made for US rock bands and Japanese Heavy Metal bands, HR Giger's 'Unseen Influences' in the Lynch version of Dune, in art for Tokyo The Last Megalopolis  and what is clearly 'Alien Style' work in the Species film. If Alien is a franchise and if it survives as a franchise I think it will be influenced by the originals but clearly move on go forward on its own path and do its own thing after Ridley Scott, Dan O'Bannon,  James Cameron and H R Giger's art. If the tv series is starting on 'Earth' then it would be silly to start so dystopian and 'grimdark' and horrific as the original.


Disney/Marvel and Warner Bros /DC seem to have mostly skipped the superhero thing at comic-con this year but there was a good interview clip I seen with Alien Earth cast and crew. I think I'll watch this,
its a good production from what I see in trailers it seems to be somewhat 'in the spirit' of the original from trailers, it appear to keep the themes of Corporate Japan 'Takes Over the World' like you got to see in 80s movies like Blade Runner. A lot of people think it has history nods to global companies, personalities, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Sergey Brin, Jensen Huang, Larry Paige, 'Satoshi Nakamoto' ...many question if that's a real world person and actual exists....Are they pulling inspiration from real world historical events, they say the original Aliens movies had elements of paranoia from the AIDs crisis. The trailer seems to suggest an Empire power play happening like 'Pepsi vs Cola Wars' or Sony versus Microsoft console wars or Eastern Roman Empire vs Genghis Khan or British India Tea Company vs Dutch Indo Tea Company. Theme of Galaxy spanning companies seem to make more appearances in Video Game Media, scifi fictional Novels and other thriller fantasy 'Books', Japan Manga, Anime, and other Western comicbooks and other Fiction. One of the actors 'Samuel' denied modeling his performance off any particular real world billionaire while laughing.
They seem to have uploaded the brains of dying kids into maybe 'Robots' or new Cyborgs or type of enhanced Synths of humans, the interview says 'Androids'. I guess the writers do have it planned well and have something mapped out, so maybe they are going to be more human like 'Lance Bishop' maybe kids robots/synth with  naivety innocence like Rebecca "Newt" from Aliens and loss psychotic evil robot such as Ian Holm's Ash, the calm and 'evil' calculating space android in the first Alien.

From what I understand there seems to be more than just 'Weyland-Yutani Corporation' so this could be a story of not just robots and alien horror but corporate wars and how they wiped out their multinational planet spanning rivals.

I could be way off on my assumptions and get it all wrong and the writers might have planned to push the show in a totally different direction.

But also the show may link together not just Alien & Predator but also Blade Runner. I’m a bit doubtful on that as isn’t Blade Runner owned by WB rights wise.

I think that's correct, companies do change for example Marvel at one time was bankrupt and almost owned nothing then it got rights back to its characters and started to buy properties of Fox, then of course the big 'Mouse' the giant that is Disney came in and bought them all and owned all artistic properties.

However there are big studio fish that are surviving as all the little fish and little fish get eaten up.

WB is still a big studio, Warner Bros still owns its own properties and is very protective of them.  However that is not to say WB / Fox / Disney cant do its own BladeRunner-esque thing. Artsits and the films editing movies and soundtrack and special fx rip each other off all the time, they might steal ideas or be inspired by others or pay 'tribute' to past artists. Metropolis was ahead of many of these guys, it is a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction silent film decades before 'Blade Runner' style. At WB / Disney they might build their own Blade Runner-ish Cyberpunk planet, they could take inspiration from any story, any book and any movie and make it their own, just add some Eastern Japan Corporate Overlord the City Noir atmosphere, some grimdark creature lurking underneath with 'Industrialized Ghetto' lurking underneath the colonies.

The elements and themes of Blade Runner story have evolved beyond the books and movie, nobody has copyright on the Cyberpunk Aesthetic of Blade Runner, its become its own 'genre'

I see that Alien Earth is on 'Hulu' a US streaming media service owned by Disney Streaming,  Hulu was partially owned by AT&T's WarnerMedia and WB owns Blade Runner but Shaw Brothers HK had distribution rights, but then Disney bought them out and now the Mouse owns Hulu. Maybe Hulu could have done Blade Runner but then it changed with '2049'
companies Alcon Entertainment, Columbia Pictures and Sony were involved but now Disney owns Hulu. A subsidiary of the Disney Entertainment so maybe I am wrong and there could be 'Blade Runner' cross over after all.

Ok I watched the first episode or pilot, I know sometimes websites put these pilots online on places like youtube, dailymotion, vimeo but I'm sure it was legal so I wont mention the site or provide a link. The pilot was good and fast paced, from what I think is possible Episode 1 & 2 is very good entertaining watch.  The start of the show is very much like the original Alien on the ship, there are little tributes to the second Aliens and maybe nods to Romulus. You don't need to watch the original movies but if you did you might enjoy it more. I think Alien is what it mostly pays tribute to as a show but the very first part of the show is very much like the 'Nostromo' and a nod to its crew member from the first movie. If I could break the pilot up to 4 parts, or ep1 and 2 to Four Quarters, Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 I would say the first 3 parts are very good but it almost gets a little silly bloody over-the-top in the 'Fourth Quarter' but some of it also works very well in 'Q4' and I sort of understand what they are doing trying to add drama, extend it all as a tv series. It's definitely a show I would be tempted to subscribe for or order the DVD of the series when it comes out. A lot of the show unfolded as I expected from the trailers but there were a few unexpected surprises and original twists. I cant go into any more detail without  ** spoilers ** but I enjoyed the pilot and would recommend the tv series.

The latest episode was an exercise in rather creepy and slow build horror. Even something like somebody talking to one of the hybrids was creepy because of the connotations.

[spoiler]He’s a great villain Morrow because you can kind of see where he’s coming in why he does what he does a little bit, but his overall set of actions and motivations are increasingly disturbing.[/spoiler]

Good slow burn episode. It’s very much more like the original episode in the way it builds up the tension in such a slow and deliberate way. There are so many different elements now to be concerned about beyond the xenomorphs it’s hard to know which is going to be most concerning. Not least that I think they’ve probably underestimated just how intelligent T-Ocellus is.

What an episode, that was brilliant. Morrow is the star of the show character wise and brilliantly acted by Babou Ceesay.

I’m glad they’ve left it sufficiently open ended that there can be another season. But it really does seem to be operating in a parallel reality as it doesn’t connect all that well with Alien, not that I’m sure that really matters much. Overall good finale for a good show.
