Was thinking the entire day about what's that on the barge. Thanks Ron!

Does anyone know if this is 'raw' metal, or is pre-made individual parts? Looking at the photo would suggest it's raw material, which to my way of thinking does not leave a lot of time to prepare the MLP in time to support a July launch.

Any input guys?

Paul

It's all in the data.

Paul,

If, by a July launch, you are referring to Ares 1-X, I think it is being launched from a (minimally modified?) Space Shuttle MLP.

The images we see here are for the Ares 1 MLP.

What I think we're seeing in the first photo is three of the four sides to the MLP.
Space launches attended:
Antares/Cygnus ORB-D1 Wallops Island, VA Sept 2013 | STS-123 KSC, FL March 2008 | SpaceShipOne Mojave, CA June 2004

I think you are correct - neat stuff, but still a lot to do before June!

That makes a lot of sence, I need to keep up to date more!

Thanks.

As you can see from the photos after your post, these are plates with stiffeners and end caps allready welded on. They will be erected in place at the MLP refurbishment location and welded together. This is a pretty common construction method for things like jack up oil rigs.

The first wall of the new mobile launcher was lifted into place on the support pedestals yesterday. I'll try to get some pictures uploaded this afternoon after work.

Very nice shots, but I guess on your 2009 KSC trip on page 3 this is a Saturn Ib and not a Saturn IV :-)

Will there be a mobile service structure like the ones for the Saturns?

No.   As much pre-flight processing work as possible will all be done in the VAB prior to rollout.

They're trying to reduce the amount of Pad-Work to the barest minimum, ideally less than 14 days.
