I had read of proposals to demonstrate skip-entry orbit changes with Dyna-Soar but just recently came across the two attached studies of doing this with the Shuttle. Did this ever get any further than students' theses at AFIT?

That would be pretty amazing... but I'm not sure the Shuttle tiles could have handled that. Dynasoar did not cared much, it was a hot structure.
