it's more an orbiter than a "robotic lunar mission" proper

I don't expect a Chinese device roving the Moon before 2014

there's a recent post on this site that has a timeline... if i remember right, it was lunar orbiter in 2007, rover in 2012 and sample return in 2020.

CHINA plans to launch the Shenzhou VII spacecraft next October, its third manned space ship, with three taikonauts aboard. They will walk in space for the first time and each move will be broadcast live.

Shenzhou-7 to get new airlock module

Yeung Bao Wa, head of the China Aerospace Research Center said on Feb 20, 2008 that the research institute will develop a whole-new airlock module for SZ-7, with the purpose of meeting the mission objective: demonstrating EVA capability. Currently, normal spacesuit (wear inside cabin) and EVA spacesuit have passed ground testing and the test result is satisfactory. China Aerospace Research Center is the main satellite and spaceship R&D center in China, and Feb 20 is the 40th anniversary of the research institute.

He said that the main characteristic of the airlock module of SZ7, when compared with that in SZ5 and SZ6, is that it need to depressurize and repressurize in EVA. This is the first time a Shenzhou series spaceship feature this function, and it is the key technology to be demonstrated by the SZ7 mission. He also emphasis that the system is completely developed by China (comment: seems that he wants to respond to the claim that SZ7 is a modified Russian Soyuz), and he express confidence of SZ7 will meet its mission objectives. He also said that this technology is a key technology for the future development of spacelab.
