03/17/2025 19:09ISS orbit adjusted to prepare for April Soyuz crew changeoverToday, the orbit of the International Space Station was adjusted using the engines of the Progress MS-30 cargo ship to ensure the launch of the Soyuz MS-27 manned spacecraft and the landing of the Soyuz MS-26, scheduled for April 2025.The engines were activated at 19:00 Moscow time and, according to preliminary data from the Mission Control Center, worked for 533 seconds, producing an impulse of 1 m/s.As a result, the average altitude of the station's orbit increased by 1.8 km and amounted to 417.9 km.The crew of the 72nd long-term expedition, which includes Roscosmos cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin, Ivan Vagner, Alexander Gorbunov and Kirill Peskov, NASA astronauts Donald Pettit, Nick Hague, Barry Wilmore, Sunita Williams, Anne McClain and Nicole Ayers, and JAXA astronaut Takuya Onishi, is working on board the ISS.The launch of the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft with the crew of the 73rd long-term expedition, consisting of Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky, and NASA astronaut Jonathan Kim, is planned for April 8, 2025. Alexey Ovchinin, Ivan Vagner and Donald Pettit will return to Earth on the Soyuz MS-26 spacecraft.
SpaceX and NASA are targeting Tuesday, March 18 at 1:05 a.m. ET for Dragon to autonomously undock from the International Space Station. After performing a series of departure burns to move away from the space station, Dragon will conduct multiple orbit-lowering maneuvers, jettison the trunk, and re-enter Earth’s atmosphere for splashdown off the coast of Florida approximately 17 hours later the same day.A live webcast of undocking will begin about 15 minutes prior to Dragon departing the International Space Station, and will resume one hour before splashdown. You can watch both webcasts here and on X @SpaceX. You can also watch the webcast on the new X TV app.Aboard the spacecraft will be Crew-9 NASA astronauts Nick Hague, Suni Williams, and Butch Wilmore, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov. Hague and Gorbunov flew to the space station on Dragon when Falcon 9 launched the spacecraft from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Saturday, September 28.
At 1:05 a.m. EDT Tuesday, NASA astronauts Nick Hague, Suni Williams, and Butch Wilmore, along with Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov undocked from the space-facing port of International Space Station’s Harmony module aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.NASA’s return coverage continues with real-time audio only, and full coverage will resume at the start of the splashdown broadcast. The audio feed will remain available, including astronaut conversations with mission control, in addition to a live video feed from the orbiting laboratory.NASA’s Crew-9 return coverage will resume at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday on NASA+ until Dragon splashes down at approximately 5:57 p.m. off the coast of Florida, and crew members are safely recovered. On March 2, the Progress MS-30 cargo spacecraft delivered almost 2.6 tons of cargo to the ISS, including a new Orlan-MKS No. 6 spacesuit for work in outer space. According to Pozdnyakov, two more new spacesuits will be delivered to the station this year, and Russian cosmonauts will go into outer space in them at the end of 2025.
STAR CITY /Moscow Region/, March 18. / TASS/. Two spacewalks are planned for the eight-month expedition of cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Alexei Zubritsky. This was reported by crew commander Ryzhikov.Earlier, cosmonaut squad commander, Hero of the Russian Federation Oleg Kononenko reported that at least one spacewalk was planned for the mission.According to Ryzhikov, the program has since been adjusted. "We are planning to perform two spacewalks in October," he said at a pre-flight press conference at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (CTC, part of Roscosmos). The cosmonaut emphasized that by that time the second Orlan-MKS spacesuit from the new batch will arrive at the station - the first was delivered in early March. According to him, extravehicular activities will be carried out in them.
