SpaceX mishap report still "under review" by FAA, which has not yet issued a launch license for Iridium return-to-flight mission.

Offline Chris Bergin

Yeah, you can bet the FAA are watching this Static Fire like hawks. A bit strange as I was told the FAA has no say in mission success.

"Chris! Not an update on the update only thread!" I hear you cry. ;) Sure, but the relevance is the Static Fire. They've been a bit delayed by usual - non rocket - things (Static Fires always have long windows anyway), but we'll know they are close when they start prop loading. That's the update.

Not going forward with the Static Fire today. Moving to Wednesday.

Should add, only a minor issue, not with the rocket - but needs to be fixed when the rocket's not vertical. Launch date not impacted by this.

This isn't from us, but the above reference to delays with Static Fire could make this fit:

#SpaceX Falcon 9 return to flight finally planned on Monday Jan 9th, a little bird told me. Backup dates Jan 11 & 12th

Now getting word this is indeed now NET 9th, but I'd want SpaceX - or more likely Iridium - to say so.

F9 is vertical and going for an attempt today.

Will update again if we hear of a firing. HOWEVER, as per usual, only SpaceX (or Iridium as the customer) can declare a good static fire, usually via Twitter. Then it'll be data review and LRR.

Unconfirmed (because SpaceX are the ones to confirm) that Falcon 9 has come to life at Vandenberg! Wait for SpaceX to confirm, very important, not least how the Static Fire test data looks.

"The FAA has not yet issued a license to SpaceX for a launch in January," the Federal Aviation Administration said on Thursday. "The FAA continues to work closely with SpaceX as they conduct the investigation and prepare for future Falcon 9 launches."

Looks like we're good to go for Monday!  Payload/rocket mating underway; we'll just have to see about the weather. Anti-rain dances, anyone?

Definitely a weather component to the delay

'Despite having a Federal Aviation Administration license in hand and an on-pad test complete, a Falcon 9 rocket and its cargo still will have to wait several days longer for the launch  from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Liftoff of the Space Exploration Technologies rocket now is planned for Jan. 14 from Space Launch Complex-4 on South Base, according to safety notices revised Saturday evening.'
