Ben Cooper's Launch Photography Viewing Guide, July 15 update:
Quote
The next United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket from Cape Canaveral, flying with the classic Atlas conical payload fairing for the final time from Florida, will launch SBIRS-6 for the U.S. Space Force on August 4.

Early August?  Or just "August?"

This time-lapse from ULA's Harlingen, Texas facility shows the #SBIRSGEO6 artwork being painted on the aluminum payload fairing that will protect the national security satellite during launch. It continues a long tradition of hand-painting the mission logo on Atlas rockets.

Huh, so this mission is doing an enhanced GTO profile. SBIRS GEO 5 just did a standard GTO with s/c separation occurring at T+42 minutes 46 seconds and a deorbit burn at T+1 hour 19 minutes.

SBIRS GEO 6 s/c separation occurs at t+3 hours 1 minute with blowdown and end of mission at t+3 hours 59 minutes.

With sunrise at 6:46 AM, this should make for a nice twilight launch. The opening of the window is 17 minutes before sunrise.

Space Systems Command - SSC

  ·
The success of #SSC’s Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) program success is a direct result of many committed professionals ~ the people of SBIRS ~ working behind the scenes to deliver global missile warning that keeps America and its allies safe from adversarial threats.
Today, we recognize Lauro “Larry” Dungca, who has served for more than 50 years as a federal civil servant, and is one of the dedicated teammates who have been essential to the success of the SBIRS program.
For more than three decades, Larry, a native of the Republic of the Philippines, served on the Overhead Persistent Infrared program, including SBIRS and its predecessors.
Thank you, Larry, for your dedicated efforts with SBIRS and for your more than half a century of steadfast service to our nation.
The Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (SBIRS GEO)-6, is the sixth, and final, space vehicle joining the SBIRS GEO constellation. Since the liftoff of GEO-1 in May 2011, SBIRS has enhanced the nation’s global missile-launch detection capability, supporting the U.S. missile defense system, expanding the country’s technical intelligence gathering capacity, and bolstering battlespace awareness for our warfighters.

Space Systems Command - SSC

  ·
// The People of SBIRS // #SSC’s Space Based Infrared System Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (SBIRS GEO)-6, the sixth space vehicle joining the SBIRS constellation is prepping to launch Aug. 4 from #SLDelta45. The program, has operated for more than 50 years and this newest satellite will deliver global, persistent, and taskable infrared surveillance capabilities, enabling the nation and its allies to have enhanced global situational awareness for years to come.

Throughout the week, we’ll be introducing you to the people of SBIRS ~ the selfless servants who have dedicated much of their professional careers to this critical U.S. program and space capability.

One of those steadfast employees is Chris Palermo, who has supported SBIRS for 20 years. He led the integrated SBIRS Requirements Section team as a member of the military in the early 2000s then transitioned to the private sector, spearheading efforts to enhance the SBIRS Integrated Master Schedule and providing challenge assessments to SBIRS’ system engineering division.

For the past 15 years, as a government civilian, Palermo has supervised teams in Sunnyvale, California and Waterton, Colorado, dedicated to assisting SBIRS and Next-Generation GEO (NGG) Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) spacecraft component development, GEO space vehicle integration and testing, and quality assurance.

Thank you, Chris, for your dedication to the SBIRS program and for your more than three decades of service to our nation in and out of uniform.

Does this mean the SBIRS to be launched next month is built with roughly 2008 technology?  Do these long running programs incrementally integrate newer parts/components/sensors?
