Author Topic: RS EVA VKD-59 - Experiment retrieval and comms - June 22nd [Prokopiev, Petelin]  (Read 10863 times)

Online eeergo

Coming up tomorrow, cosmonauts Petelin and Prokopiev will perform VKD-59 dedicated to maintenance and experiment retrieval ("retrieve several experiment packages and install communications equipment" according to NASA).

The previously planned activities to activate the ShK airlock seem to have been deferred to VKD-60 or subsequent.

comms reconfigured wih SG1 and 2 dedicated to the EVA.  SG3 and 4 for ISS related comms.  Russian traffic on the ISS Youtube feed, no translations. The only times Russian comms are on this channel is during EVAs or Russian vehicle arrivals/departures.

Best quote heard during an inspection, "I was unaware that I was the only one who was aware."

Prokopiev and Petelin are preparing to open the Poisk MRM2 hatch. No station video at the moment, we're just getting the feed from Moscow mission control.

Offline Yellowstone10

Hatch is now open! (Official start time is 1424 UTC.)

Petelin is the cosmonaut who's currently out the hatch with some sort of cable reel. He's on his 5th spacewalk. (Also, there's a little circular cover on the Zvezda node that opened - wonder what that is?)

Both cosmonauts now outside the airlock.

Offline Yellowstone10

Some early helmetcam views as the cosmonauts work to demate cables connected to the science experiment equipment that will be jettisoned during the spacewalk.

Offline Yellowstone10

Now routing cables along Zvezda that will connect to a new data transmission radio to be installed later in the spacewalk.

Offline Yellowstone10

A helmet cam view (on the right) of the new data transmission radio monoblock that will be installed during the spacewalk.

Edit - and a good view of the zenith side of Zvezda.

Getting some imagery of connectors on the zenith side of Zvezda that had been covered under some MLI. (Sounds like there was some question as to the current configuration?)

Side note - anyone remember the name of this experiment attached to the starboard side of Zvezda?

Offline Yellowstone10

Continuing to route cables rearward along the Zenith side of Zvezda. The spacewalkers have been asked to take a brief break while ground controllers rotate the solar panels to provide clearance for removing equipment that will be jettisoned later in the spacewalk.

I think the objects to be removed are:

Seismoprognoz experiment
SVPI  monoblok
TM/TS monoblock

I wish NASA PAO would use these names in parentheses so we could know what they are removing right now!
