Space environmentQ: Solid motor use in orbit?

I presume ignition is possible and thrust is thrust, but say one launched an "Estes" or similar model rocket in the vacuum of space.  
It would accelerate similar, but end up with greater velocity than airborne model of equivalent design?

Would only the air resistance need to be factord out for all calculations of this type of hypothetical flight?

Would there be the same smoke trail, or would the particles dissapate - That in itself would make a fascinating study IMHO.

Wouldn't this be something neat - much more topical than hitting a golf ball on the moon or from the ISS fairway.

The composite model rocketry motors (Aerotech for example) has the same propellant as standard SRM's.  They have been used on many spacecraft.  There is nothing new here.

Solid are pretty common on-orbit, because you don't need to fiddle with microgravity plumbing...
