BRUTAL!

The joke is, this isn't a joke.  And, they still have to get through the MMOD layer underneath.

Referencing my recent Family Guy reference to Office Space...

IMHO, an under-viewed Office Space/Babylon 5 mashup!

Prompted by reviewing booster production, I think we should start campaigning now  to get Hugh Fraser, probably best known for his portrayal of Hercule Poirot's associate Captain Hastings, to be drafted in to SpaceX HQ to do commentary for the first launch of booster 1066.

OK it's obscure. But that's how my mind works.

In real life, what mission would Core B1066 be used for?

If they manage to average around three missions per core through next year, 1066 might not fly for a very long while

Are you factoring in the possibility that Falcon cores being stockpiled in event of decision to halt F9 core production as early as possible?

They keep making second stages and since this is SpaceX, most of the tooling is probably identical. I don't expect production to be truly shut down until F9 stops flying. They will likely shift their production line towards being more efficient at second stages, less efficient at first stages.

*alert alert alert*  The above is a serious post!!!  *alert alert alert*

Party Foul!  Half the distance to Mars orbit plus possession!

Not all party thread posts have to be snarky jokes filled with nuance and intelligent humor. All Most congratulations posts in this thread, for example, are in fact genuine. While I think it is a party foul, to pollute the thread often with seriousness, there is no sense kicking an occasional serious reply out. We are a “big tent” (with many clowns of course).

There can be more than one person in the front seat not driving.

How big are your shoes? Big shoes are important. Are they made of steel? Concrete? Do they have fin slots cut in them?

Do they often get welded to the deck of your local ASDS?

Talk about contemporaneous!  With the most recent SpaceX slip due to high-level winds, they're trailing Blue's launch by only 4 minutes!

I'll be so hyped if they actually go off one-two like that.  Good thing I've got dual monitors!

EDIT: So Blue has scrubbed, which brings me to another benefit of side-by-side launches: redundancy!  Even if one scrubs, you still had a reason to wake up early (6:30am here)!  Fingers crossed the high-level winds behave themselves over the Cape...

EDIT 2: The Soyuz launch later today has also been postponed, and the Delta IV's weather isn't looking good.  I feel like we should've seen this coming...

EDIT 3: Well I'll be buggered. SpaceX scrubbed too - and not even due to weather!  Only the Delta IV and GSLV remain, the former of which is not looking promising.

EDIT 4: Delta IV is scrubbed now as well.  At this point, I am one with the scrub.

My 3 year old son gets a little despondent whenever a falcon 9 is not recovered. He is very concerned about the well-being of each booster.

Why is there a dark spot on the tip of the fairing?

Maybe this F9 is Jewish?  So, depending on your preferred rocket iconography, it's either wearing a kippah (yarmulke) or it's circumcised.

LOL. Real answer: The webcast host noted that this fairing has extra thermal protection on the tip, due to the increased heating on this launch trajectory.
