Since alot of tiles have been popping up recently, I decided to create this threat for anyone who wants to post updates and discussions about any debris that may have washed up ( and on the sea floor ) after the IFT AFTS explosion.

It is not my meaning to impugn or shame beachcombers or folks with various legal opinions here. But it seems kind to at least inquire with SpaceX about keeping particular instances their debris. What does SpaceX usually say about this?

Dr. Phil Metzger is begging for crowdsourced help with acquiring some additional samples (specifically a sample of Fondag, and plain beach sand from the area) to further research the debris cloud of fine dust/sand particles observed during the 4/20 launch. Very interesting Twitter thread:

One of the dudes who puts up YT vids from around Starbase is advertising, on his site, pieces of the concrete debris for sale.  You pay based on how much a chunk weighs.

Not that I condone what that YouTuber is doing, but I ran the numbers a while ago based on his ebay sales, and estimated that he'd already earned $1,000 doing this by the middle of May. Not a bad hustle.

My son bought me one of those concrete chunks on eBay. We've been doing some research to figure out whether it looks authentic or not. I've attached two pictures. It's about 480 grams and about 120x100x45 mm. It appears to be made of crushed brown-black rock and dark gray cement. There is a 1mm layer of some bumpy gray or beige substance on the front and none on the back. Curiously, there are a number of metal wires embedded in it, looking like steel - flat and about 1 mm wide. It was supposedly found on Boca Chica beach, about 800 m from the launch pad. There is a small piece of a white seashell stuck between the concrete and one of the bent wires, consistent with it having landed on the beach or in the water.

The color of the cement is consistent with Fondag, as best I can tell from googling. The beige layer might be Martyte, but I was not aware that it was used on the orbital pad. (It was definitely used on the suborbital pad.)  The wire is a curious feature. Could parts of the pad been reinforced with a wire mesh instead of rebar? From the random ends sticking out, I'd say the wires are distributed about 1 cm apart from each other throughout the specimen (i.e., not from a single layer of flat mesh).

It certainly seems plausible that it's authentic, but the beige layer and the wires are not features I'd expect from published information. Anyone know if Martyte might have been used? And what about a wire mesh?
