Here's a fun question. It took 50 years (1967-2017) for 39A to get to 100 launches.
How many years for the next 100?

How many years for the next 100?
Between Iridium NEXT 1 and now, there have been 6 flights (CRS-10, Echostar 23, SES-10, NROl-76, Inmarsat 5, CRS-11) in 141 days, all from the same pad, or one flight every 23.5 days.  So, 100 flights would require 2350 days, suggesting that the 200th flight from Pad 39A will be on Thursday, November 9, 2023.  However, if no weather or technical issues ever occurred, and SpaceX matched their record (so far) of a 14-day turnaround every time, they could hit 200 by Saturday, April 3, 2021.

Of course, the pad being taken offline for 40-60 days or more in preparation for Falcon Heavy might push it to the right - but then, increased launch cadence might push it to the left (and also, once LC-40 is online, 39A might become a bit less popular).  Also, it has been speculated that Elon wants ITS flying by 2022, which could have quite an impact on launch cadence (maybe increasing it, but probably decreasing).  Then again, Elon's timetable is also known to defy standard time conventions, and thus such analysis is well-suited for the party thread.

So, today's big news was about SpaceX flying the X-37B for the USAF in August. When that news got out today, I also heard some "unofficial news" got out as well, the cargo the vehicle carries. While not confirmed at all by sources, I hear ...
-- X-37B is manned
-- the cargo bay for X-37B carries a Gemini spacecraft. At least the re-entry module of a Gemini spacecraft.

Here is how I think it works: when on orbit, two pilots climb down into the cargo bay where the Gemini is. They take a hammer and smash a hole in the heat shield, and climb inside. When the bay doors open, so do the Gemini doors. The astronauts then use Kodak Super 8mm film cameras to take pictures. So, the X-37B actually is....the MOL! At end of mission, the pilots use the ejection seats to return to earth, landing on parachutes (or perhaps personal methane prop landing rockets) and the Gemini is jettisoned.

The sad thing is: there are places in the Internet where that scenario would be taken literally.

What, and the CRS-11 first stage recovery kicking up two sheets of plywood is not proof enough that it is not all an elaborate sound stage?

I find that hard to swallow.

European mice or African mice???

ALSO ... brings new meaning to the notion of high (pitched) beta impacting ISS operations.

[ULAlaunch coverage]... is about as exciting and awe-inspiring as watch paint dry.
You don't watch enough of them, then. They have shown video of spacecraft separation in the past.

Jim speaks truth!!!! You can NEVER watch too many launches! Amirite?
