Author Topic: Shuttle SSMEs gimbal in for re-entry and landing?  (Read 6019 times)

Looking at footage of shuttles during descent and landing, I get the impression that the main engines are pointing in. That would make sense from an aerodynamic and aero-heating sense, but I can't really find any sources confirming they actually do that.
I remember doing research on this one day and finally finding it somewhere that they actually do that, and I remember it being referred to as "stowed position", but I can't find that source again.

Can someone confirm that, preferably with some NASA manual or article mentioning it?

Found it. Googled "ssme stowed position", it's the first search result, the PDF from NASA.
