Cryogenic fuel is an added challenge, as it evaporates to create fuel-air explosion risk in a partially oxygen atmosphere like Earth.
That said, we have a lot of sensors to detect this. More later.
-
New fire has sprung up. It looks to me like this one is in a different location (closer to the tower), but it's difficult to tell with the perspective of the different cams, so take that with a grain of salt.
Update: Scarier than it looked, it seems. Died down very quickly, and no more black smoke. Cam is zooming on apparent pipe damage to OLM (according to commentators).

Earlier Elon tweet:
twitter.com/ppathole/status/1546675566035992576
Elon, would it be possible to maybe burn/evaporate the leaks caused before ignition? I guess space shuttle used to do this, they used to setup small sparks under the shuttle's engine section & burn off all the Hydrogen leaks that may have happened before ignition ...
https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1546713443943825408
That is one of the things we will be doing going forward.
This particular issue, however, was specific to the engine spin start test (Raptor has a complex start sequence).
Going forward, we won’t do a spin start test with all 33 engines at once.

Filmed during an exciting week of static fire testing at SpaceX Starbase, a new addition to The Road to Mars Cinema Archive. Headphones on! In this video, we see and hear Starship Super Heavy Booster 7 conduct two separate single raptor engine tests, including the first 20-second long duration static fire on the orbital launchpad. Ship 24 is also filmed in highspeed conducting a two-engine test as it prepares for eventual stacking and orbital flight. Incredible audio capture throughout by the Cosmic Perspective's team Andrew Keating. We're designing an audio experience page for our website to explore the often overlooked amazing sounds of spaceflight in more detail.

Another OP for the day.
Additionally, Overnight the old raptor stand was moved to under B7 and raptor removal tool was lifted on to it, signaling a raptor is likely coming off, so it is highly likely testing today will only be S24.

I triangulated all the engines that fired on B7 during Wednesday's tests using 3 different camera angles. RC? from the center 3 and RB84 ignited. RB47 was the one that aborted. Last night they removed RC29 from the middle ring of B7 after not firing it.
Edit to add:
https://twitter.com/ryanhansenspace/status/1565918719099998208
Minor correction to this statement... The engine removed from B7 after multiple engine static fire testing was RC76 NOT RC29. Same engine location with respect to the vehicle features but the diagram I was using was not fully up to date.

Also worth noting re potential static fire(s) today:
https://twitter.com/13ericralph31/status/1567806776132931588
I'll believe it when propellant loading is underway, at this point, but good signs: Ship 24's nose section hatch has been closed out and the work platform was removed from underneath Booster 7! There's at least a chance.
https://twitter.com/13ericralph31/status/1567839161234882560
Another good sign: SpaceX moved its LR11000 crane further away from the launch mount and B7 about an hour ago. Could be so it's in position to work on B7.1, but it could also be to get it as far from possible away from the next booster static fire and/or explosion.
-
NSF Starbase Live shows flashing lights and a barricade on the road, and several vehicles leaving the pad area. Vehicles heading the other way have been stopped and turned around.

Road is closed and pad is clear. Chopsticks started rising in the last ten minutes. GSE lines to B7 are being purged/chilled. Pad under B7 looks clear of equipment.

Booster 7 has conducted a spin prime test – potentially with all 33 Raptor engines. This test used new processes (including improved engine chilldown routing) after a previous 33 engine spin prime resulted in an explosion due to build up of gaseous methane and oxygen.
https://twitter.com/nextspaceflight/status/1567924854875365377
The methane engine chill is now routed through new pipes away from the orbital launch mount – rather than being vented directly below where it can mix with the oxygen.

That’s the plan. We’re taking a little risk there, as engine isolation was done as retrofit, so not as good as on Booster 9.

After the next unstack, the next time you'll see a full Starship will be for orbital. I believe a November launch is likely!

With a full stack #Starship on the pad at Starbase, testing is set to get moving this week as #SpaceX aims to put a full load of methane & oxygen into Booster 7 & Ship 24 for the first time. Then, static fire time!

And then they go and lift Ship 24.
Any update @elonmusk ?
We knew that they would need to de-stack at some point because they need to remove the crane lift-points on the nose of SS and install the tiles there. Probably better to do it before the cryo loads, static fire, and WDR, especially if the are working on the OLM in parallel.

-
Interesting tidbits about the aftermath of Booster 7's July 11 explosion:
https://spacenews.com/nasa-predicts-first-starship-orbital-launch-as-soon-as-december/
Kirasich said that test put “a relatively large amount of fuel” into a cloud of oxygen, triggering the detonation. “That was an operational and planning oversight. SpaceX, in the early days, goes for speed above systems engineering rigor,” he said, calling it a “pause and learn” event for SpaceX.
“They’ve since elevated the level of systems engineering put into each one of these tests, as well as brought in some new leadership into the team down there,” he said, resulting in “additional rigor” in subsequent tests.
That incident also attracted the attention of NASA’s Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel. A member of the panel, Paul Hill, mentioned it at the panel’s Oct. 27 public meeting. “SpaceX is still pursuing an aggressive Starship development test plan, but this failure resulted in corrective actions to increase systems engineering and risk management rigor,” he said.

Each Raptor has approximately the thrust of three Merlin engines. Falcon Heavy has 27 engines. Even if they ran at slightly lower thrust, I think it is safe to say the above is now confirmed.

One secondary benefit of a full LOx tank is that Booster 7 likely weighed >3000 tons during this test, so even 11 Raptors at full thrust (~2500 mT-f) would have exerted *no* upward stress on the launch mount clamps!

Propellant loading is likely now underway. Awaiting confirmation from frost on the vehicle.
-
twitter.com/nextspaceflight/status/1623742536639717378
The orbital launch mount stopped which either means propellant loading or a halt to the operations. Still no frost and a drone flying near some valves. Speculation points to possible pause in the sequence.

Ahead of todays (possible) 33 engine static fire, here is a reminder of which raptors on B7 have been swapped since the last round of testing (in blue) and may need to be Spin Primed before Static Fire testing!

Edit to add:

I do not like the state of the orbital tank farm right now. The vent stopped very early, and the booster shows no signs of fueling.
Either the chill-down process was sped up massively or this is another hold.

Booster 7 has been released from the grip of the Mechazilla chopsticks, which have been lowered into their resting position ahead of welcoming Ship 24.
Now we are waiting for Ship 24 to make the trip to the launch site in the coming days!

Unless there’s an unforeseen problem, SpaceX should have the launch license for the Starship debut launch by April 14 or thereabouts. The first MSIB's have been released for Starship's OFT! Windows from April 6th-April 12th, 7:55AM to 12:10PM (noon) local.
Obviously still pending the FAA license, but it will be worth keeping an eye out for matching TFRs, closures, etc. Still a very promising sign.

Well, I think this says it all! S24 arrives back at the LC as B7's transport stand leaves! This is it guys...SpaceX don't intend B7 leaving the OLM again unless it's by it's own power! Raptor Power! LAUNCH!

Closure posted for Monday, April 3rd, 8a-8p. (Non-flight testing)

45 minutes ahead of today's closure, the area under the OLM is clear of equipment, and the chopsticks are moving up.
A Firex test was also conducted earlier.

2 signs of a road closure at Starbase today. Workers are being taxied back to their cars and a sheriff is at the usual road block area.

The main focus today is the Artemis II crew announcement, but the sticks at Starbase are on the move, but not for a Ship 24 mate at this time.
Their focus is on Booster 7. Potential testing, potential realignment. Road Closed.
Let's see what happens:

Pretty much a booster WDR at this rate. It's LOX and CH4 and filling up nicely.

Tanking has stopped on B7, and it seems like SpaceX has started detanking the Booster.

We have finally got to the point where we have a launch thread! Will be locked for now, so continue here, but I think we'll open this when we are back in full stack!

The latest FAA airspace advisory (https://www.fly.faa.gov/adv/adv_otherdis.jsp?advn=24&adv_date=04042023&facId=DCC&title=OPERATIONS+PLAN&titleDate=04/04/23) shows a primary date of 4/10 and backup dates of 4/11-13
-
The latest ATCSCC (Air Traffic Control System Command Center) advisory from the FAA has information relating to a potential Starship/Super Heavy launch on April 10th, with backup dates on April 11th and 12th, 13:10 - 17:45 UTC.
https://www.fly.faa.gov/adv/advADB.jsp
(Note, this is not a guarantee of anything. There are no TFRs, no closures, and obviously still no launch license. Just take it as an interesting piece of information)

Ok sticks are up in lift position. Might be a while yet, let's all head over to launch flow updates cause that's where we are now!
