Hi, hopefully it is the correct thread to ask... how serious is that ?

https://www.livescience.com/technology/engineering/china-creates-powerful-spy-satellite-capable-of-seeing-facial-details-from-low-orbit

The source they quote (South China Morning Post) has a pretty bad reputation, and this is the reason why I ask the experts here.

Chen Zhenlin: Contributing China's meteorological early warning wisdom to human welfare

Love knows no boundaries, and China's universal meteorological early warning program is going global. In order to implement the United Nations universal early warning initiative, relevant policy programs such as the National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy 2035, the China Action Plan for Early Warning to Promote Climate Change Adaptation (2025-2027), the Beijing Declaration on Jointly Building the Belt and Road Initiative for Universal Early Warning, and the Cooperation Agreement between the World Meteorological Organization, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the China Meteorological Administration in Support of the United Nations Universal Early Warning Initiative have been successively issued, demonstrating China's strong ability to act and lead. The China Meteorological Administration has signed cooperation agreements with relevant institutions and international organizations in 33 countries, carried out regional joint defense cooperation on major disastrous weather with neighboring countries, promoted mutual assistance among countries through South-South cooperation demonstrations, and focused on promoting China's early warning brand to southern countries around the world, deepening the "hard connection" of meteorological infrastructure, the "soft connection" of work experience mechanisms, and the "heart connection" with the people of the countries involved in the construction. So far, my country's independently developed "cloud + terminal" early warning system has been implemented in Pakistan, Ethiopia, the Solomon Islands and other countries. In the future, we will further explore the use of artificial intelligence to empower early warning operations. We will also launch three geostationary meteorological satellites covering Africa, Asia and other places to provide Africa with all-weather high-precision meteorological disaster monitoring services, and provide a giant umbrella to protect people in many countries from wind and rain.
The three GEO sats which might be Fengyun-4 (风云四号) are plan to be launched in future.

Artificial intelligence, satellites and other detection technologies are changing rapidly. China's achievements have unlocked the code of meteorology

Li Lijun, Director of the Institute of Meteorological Development and Planning of the China Meteorological Administration: So far, more than 100 countries around the world have established multi-hazard early warning systems. my country's meteorological department has actively carried out Chinese practices, such as the urban multi-hazard early warning toolbox, progressive meteorological services, and high-level meteorological warning "call response". China's experience has provided a Chinese solution for the world to enhance its disaster prevention and mitigation and climate change response capabilities. The people-oriented concept has been recognized and appreciated by the World Meteorological Organization.

It is understood that in the next two years, my country will also launch three Fengyun geostationary meteorological satellites, which can provide satellite fast scanning services on demand and provide high-frequency meteorological disaster monitoring for African, Asian and Pacific countries. At the same time, provide appropriate observation equipment and technical support to help them improve the localized monitoring network and enhance the real-time perception of regional climate risks.
The three Fengyun-4 (风云四号) will be launched in two years.

Best regards,
Interesting... May be it connected with this news...
https://www.newsweek.com/mysterious-green-lasers-hawaii-chinese-satellite-nasa-1780468

That's over two years old.

There are even reports of green lasers being used on drones to scan the ground.

China to set up first international association on deep-space exploration.

China will officially launch the International Deep Space Exploration Association (IDSEA) next Monday, with a particular aim of empowering other developing countries in developing deep-space technologies.
