Chinese Jupiter + solar polar mission
« on: 10/29/2011 09:52 am »
a few months ago Chinadaily reported that:

Quote
scientists are now discussing ideas of exploring Jupiter and the two poles of the Sun in the future
see: http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/cndy/2011-08/31/content_13224280.htm

and now freshly published on the free access Chinese Journal of Space Science is this related paper: Sun Polar Probe Trajectory Design Based on Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm http://www.cjss.ac.cn/qikan/epaper/zhaiyao.asp?bsid=16247
(at this moment only the abstract is available, the full paper, usually in either Chinese or English, should be available in a matter of days or weeks)

China now plans to launch a spacecraft for the exploration of Jupiter and its moon Callisto as part of the Tianwen-4 mission, which also will include a spacecraft for making a flyby of Uranus.

Both the Solar Polar mission and Tianwen 4 are targeting ~2029.

The Solar Polar Orbit Observatory is currently scheduled to launch in 2029. The spacecraft will perform a gravity assist maneuver at Jupiter, altering its course to enter a high-inclination orbit around the Sun, enabling observations of the solar poles.

Tianwen-4 is scheduled to launch around 2029 and head to Jupiter and eventually enter orbit around the Galilean moon Callisto. Next, a “ground simulation device for planetary habitable environments will be built around 2030,” according to DSEL.
