NSF SpaceX ASDS Landing Bingo returns again just like another flight proven first stage!!!
Once upon a time rockets were territorial. Just like gangster rappers of the 1990s, they were either East Coast or West Coast for life. A rocket from the Cape lived and died with only the Atlantic on its mind. One from Vandenberg out west sailed over the Pacific and that was that. Well now the tyranny of geography has been shattered because the west coast flying Iridium-1 booster has gone east and is doing its thing again as Bulgariasat-1 Its a whole new world of rocket reuse and the OCISLY is already out at sea to make it a reality!
No shotgun start, the game is immediately open!
The game remains exactly as played in prior iterations. If its not broke don't fix it. :)

Pick your square, one per player. Closest square to the center engine when it comes to a halt gets the prize!
This includes post landing walkabouts and Robot repositioning.
No prize for fireballs, debris, or damage on deck!
If it hits the ship, goes kaboom, punctures holes in the deck, falls over in transit, or splashes down in the sea, there is no winner. Only a booster standing tall and triumphant as the ASDS sails into the harbor will generate a win!
Water squares are meaningless, if falls in the sea, no winners - no prize. Feel free to pick a water square just for "I told you so" bragging rights if you wish! ;)
This thread remains the official record of who chose what square when. For that reason any edited pick post is invalid.
Use Dan's scraper to see which spots have gone:
http://asds.dansdoorway.com
NOTE: There may sometimes be a slight delay of a few minutes at most between scraper updates, so check the last few posts before yours too, just to be sure. Scraper is operational as of this edit. Thanks to DanielW for setting the scraper up, it helps a lot!
Judging is by me, Helodriver using imagery of OCISLY sailing back into the harbor to help determine a winner. Rocketcams, helicopter or drone shots, and landing coverage will also be used, but where it sits at the time of unloading will be final. Post landing movements by robot if such a thing is possible, will definitely add a twist of uncertainty. :)
Winner gets a SpaceX artifact, which has been recycled from its original purpose into a suitable prize. Winner also gets a one year L2 membership for free. If a current L2 member, you can donate it to another member (or add it to your own term length).
Good luck SpaceX, Good luck Bulgariasat-1, and Good luck to NSF readers!

So the scraper's not super up to date and I can't read. ;D

The scraper isn't working. Five hours ago andylander processed this map of squares (http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=43165.msg1691289#msg1691289). Check that map, pick a couple squares, check the posts that follow to eliminate those that were subsequently taken, then post your choice.

Hopefully you can fix the scraper, but if not people should keep manually updating to give people an idea of what's spare.

Chris, I discovered that the problem is not on your end. Everything works fine on my development computer. The issue is with some configuration change at my cheap webhost. I will have to try to figure out what that is after work.

Thanks Dan - all the best. SpaceX sources note they don't want to delay the launch again due to this issue of not knowing where the land the first stage on the drone ship ;)

looks like a very late pick is going to be the winner! 8)
Thats why we play the game!
-
Wow. That was exciting. We have yet to see a successful landing that far off the mark. Too crude for me to say that the quick trigger bulleye folks on the first page can suck it? All in good fun. Congrats SpaceX and the winner here.
-
Is it too late to swing my pick up and to the right a few knight's moves? ;D
Sorry, ClayJar. Falcon's landed.
-
Well... Unless the Roomba robot picks it up and carries it... we may not have a winner... :o :P
My pick was in the correct quadrant... but where near that far out of in the radius... :-[
Rough eyeball is E-25 ish area... Pics taken back in port as per rules though... ;)
-
I might actually be close! :o
Third time, I guess.
-
Is it too late to swing my pick up and to the right a few knight's moves? ;D
Sorry, ClayJar. Falcon's landed.
That was actually the point of my jest, which I thought was ever so very slightly humorous and a convenient way of marking that Bingo had already closed, hence the smiley. ;)
-
*rough eyeballing*
Winner is near F-25 ish.
-
I thought the rule was the stage has to make it back to port still upright.
If it falls and goes boom it's no winner.
-

Relatively calm weather and possibly a roomba to help stabilize, So good odds on it staying upright and more or less where it landed I think.
Always time left to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory though. I'm going to just wait and see.
-
any idea of the exact point?
-
If there's no octagrabber, the support crews will tie it down. Maybe they are open to offers if you want them to tweak it one way or another? :)
-
Have we gotten any definitive photos yet, or is this going to come down to some clever trigonometry and image examination?
-
Probably the latter. Helodriver's pretty good at this.
-
Any updates on this? I hope you didn't forget to choose the winner :D
-
Ok, so its been two weeks since the landing of booster 1029.2 aboard the ASDS and SpaceX has not yet released any high resolution on-board still pictures or video of the landing. We know the melty grid fin debris covered up the rocketcam lens so that was going to be no help, but the usual camera angles aboard ship which are usually released when the ASDS returns to port would be definitive in determining landing position and the bingo winner.
Since that release of the obviously sporty landing imagery has yet to happen and after waiting to see if any aerial or high angle drone pix would surface of OCISLY returning to port with the Octocrab holding the rocket (none did) after that more than long enough two week wait, it was time to turn to the few seconds of video broadcast during the webcast to see if a position could be determined from the slightly elevated position of the video camera uplinking the action.
Indeed it could! Fortunately the leg footpads touched or lined up with the outer white circle and the position and the rotation of the booster could be surmised, knowing that the legs span a 7x7 game grid square pattern.
Geometric analysis then gives a result of F-26 which, being well outside the normal range of landings was not picked by any player.
However, the game rules are written that its the square closest to the center engine that gets the win, and just one row down and one row to the left of the landing spot is square G-25 which was the very last game square picked just minutes before launch and the closure of the game!
That means tinorex, who snuck in just moments under the wire (yes, I verified the very fortuitous timing multiple times just to be sure! ;D ) is the First Two Time Winner of NSF ASDS Landing Bingo!!! The first booster to land on two different ships, in two different oceans, and the second to ever fly two missions yields the first two time winner! Kind of fitting and serendipitous actually!
Congrats on your repeat win tinorex and SpaceX for another stunning successful flight (Now give us the pix and vids! We wanna see the 3 engine gyrations and powerslide!) and thanks to all NSF reader and players!
ASDS Bingo shall return!
-
Congrats, tinorex!
-
Yeah.
But also congrats to Helodriver for a pretty darn good analysis. Even if it turns out not to be right in the end (if and when we ever get vids) all decisions are final, I think....
-
Yeah.

Thanks, I think this one is solid and will stand regardless of what is released. :)

Yeah.

I was trying to backdoor a new rule in .. your decision, once announced, is final (or should be) :)
But no... you had to make a bunch of puns. Everyone knows this stage was standing but now isn't (per twitter), and that it's a liquid rocket. not a solid :)
-
Continuing the trend of landing on the aft half.
-
Continuing the trend of landing on the aft half.
I suspect the distribution of guesses will shift dramatically now that we have this analysis. Holy crud, that would suggest these were becoming educated guesses rather than WAGs. What fun will that be?! ;)

Yeah, should be interesting to see if guesses shift right.

Wau. I thing I should begin to play lotto ;-). Thank you for gratulations, helodriver for perfect game, helodriver and chris for prices, and of course spaceX for landings, all about this game is.

You know the fun is, if most picks are concentrated on the right hand side and a booster ultimately does land on the left hand side, the sparser square selection on the left makes it more likely to actually be closest to the rocket, as shown in this example where a pick one that was NOT directly beneath the centre engine.
Congrats to tinorex, well played! :)
