I checked out the new building. Atlantis gear is down. On the front gear, they have removed the wheels.

Why did they take her front gear off if they are going to have to lower her down on her gear one last time?

Why did they take her front gear off if they are going to have to lower her down on her gear one last time?

All of the landing gear is being removed, followed by the draining of the remaining hydraulic fluid.

The OTS hydraulically lowered her to weight-on-wheels....jacks were used on nose to level her and remove the nose

Once they begin the lift, the main landing gear will be removed.

She will not be lowered onto her gear again. The landing gear will be displayed separately.

Cool video. Thank goodness they skipped the hand-over ceremony. And the OTS mounted camera gives a cool perspective. And apparantly they had to back-up Atlantis a bit after initial drive-in to her new home.

Nicely done.

Yeah, I liked that viewpoint as well. Always nice to get different perspectives.

Atlantis will be covered this week, followed by the lift.

I can't wait to see pics of her wrapped up.  :) Any indications as to when they will start putting up the wall behind her SSME's?

Construction of the final wall was slated to begin a day or two after Atlantis was inside and continue concurrently as the orbiter was lifted into place. The wall is slated to be completed by mid-December.

The final two images in that series also shows the wall going up behind Atlantis.

That's awesome!

I also found it hilarious how the building isn't even done yet and when you exit from viewing Atlantis you go through the gift shop. They had to make sure that was done first.  :D

Side note: It shares the same gift shop as the Shuttle Launch Experience.
