Cosmonaut assignments
« on: 10/23/2006 07:04 pm »
Hello, I start this thread to post some questions I don't know, and as a thread, if you want, to post the (most of the times) unknown “movements” of the Russian Cosmonauts (with the help of the expert members of this forum).

My questions:

a) Who's the man/group that choose the russian crews?   Tsibliyev?

b) What´s the difference between a test-cosmonaut and a research-cosmonaut?

c) Will any Russian Cosmonaut fly again in the Shuttle?

d) What's the job of the cosmonaut assigned to JSC?.  Is this assignment a merit for a possible shuttle seat?

e) On the thread -Current plan of launches to ISS-  on 12/06/2005,  Anik said:

"… First two armchairs in Soyuz TMA-7 should occupy by crewmembers of ISS Expedition 12 (William McArthur and Valery Tokarev). Two persons are «struggled» for the third armchair – future third space tourist Gregory Olsen and possible 100th Russian cosmonaut Sergey Zhukov! "

Why Zhukov?. There were more veteran engineers (Revin, Skripochka…), and more veteran pilots (even with backup experience).

Thanks and regards.

a) Who's the man/group that choose the russian crews? Tsibliyev?

It is the Interdepartmental Commission (MVK), which consists of representatives of Roskosmos, RSC Energia, GCTC and Institute of medical and biologic problems (IMBP)...

Quote
TALsite - 23/10/2006  10:47 PM

b) What's the difference between a test-cosmonaut and a research-cosmonaut?

The training of cosmonaut-verifier is more complex than of cosmonaut-researcher... The cosmonaut-verifier can be commander and flight engineer of Soyuz spacecraft, cosmonaut-researcher can not be...

Quote
TALsite - 23/10/2006  10:47 PM

c) Will any Russian Cosmonaut fly again in the Shuttle?

No, I think...

Quote
TALsite - 23/10/2006  10:47 PM

d) What's the job of the cosmonaut assigned to JSC?...

Cosmonauts are usually training for flights to ISS at JSC or they are simply represent their organizations there (for example, GCTC representative)...

Quote
TALsite - 23/10/2006  10:47 PM

e) Why Zhukov?

It is because he is from Roskosmos...

New information from Sergey Shamsutdinov (one of editors of Novosti kosmonavtiki magazine):

On March 6 the Russian Main Medical Commission (GMK) has declared Konstantin Kozeyev and Aleksandr Lazutkin unusable to spaceflight due to medical problems, therefore they will leave RSC Energia's Cosmonaut Group very soon...

Also the new commander for the backup Expedition 17 crew is Gennadiy Padalka now (instead of Sergey Krikalyov)... And Yuri Lonchakov, not Michael Barratt, will be the commander of the backup Expedition 18 crew...

When I discovered Internet in the nineties, one of my first searches was for "cosmonaut data" and "cosmonaut assignments"... and one day I found the very helpfully Sergei A. Voevodin Reports. It was an open door to the (till then for me) unknown cosmonaut's careers.
His last post is VSA 084 dated 16-05-2000, and seems he no longer makes them.
In one of the latest (number 082) appeared the  helpfully "TsPK training groups" and "Cosmonaut's Detachments and Groups".   With spirit of gratefulness and recognition to Mr. Voevodin's work, I have made my own scheme, trying to update the names (in which I believe to know).  I hope you find it useful.  Thanks to all posters that are notifying changes.
I’m sure I have made mistakes. But it can be improved.  Both Kozeyev and Lazutkin are deleted from the group, supposing their retirement as inminent.

Also I’d like to know the meaning of the P4 column (the rank) of the
"Cosmonaut's Detachments and Groups".  Is it a sort of military rank, or time in the cosmonaut’s group?

Regards
Carlos

You’re right Olaf.   And Kononenko, Aimakhanov, Aimbetov and Shargin too.  Note that they’re marked with an * that means “cosmonauts who attached to the detachment (group)”.  I tried to do as the old reports were.

Any help would be appreciated to improve and update it, because probably I made mistakes and omissions.  :)

According to Sergey Shamsutdinov (one of editors of Novosti kosmonavtiki magazine), the new GCTC representative at JSC is Anton Shkaplerov now, instead of Dmitriy Kondratyev, who was there two time more than previous representatives...
