Astronaut Rescue Training Exercise in April
« on: 05/09/2018 04:04 am »
A NASA article on the commercial crew vehicle astronaut rescue training stated it took place in April.

Caption on photo:
Pararescue specialists from the 304th Rescue Squadron, located in Portland, Oregon and supporting the 45th Operations Group’s Detachment 3, based out of Patrick Air Force Base, deploy their parachutes and prepare to touch down on the Atlantic Ocean surface during an astronaut rescue training exercise in April.

and

Pararescue specialists, also known as “Guardian Angels,” prepare equipment during an astronaut rescue training exercise in April off of Florida’s eastern coast.

Does anyone know the actual dates the training exercises took place?

Thanks!

EXIF data for all three photographs in the article lists "date taken" as April 17, 2018.

Any ideas on how to find out the name of the USCG vessel involved in the exercise?

Thanks.

I don't think there was one in this recent exercise.  The article talked about the USCG being involved in the exercise, but I think that part was about the previous one in August 2017.  But you can probably find out by calling the 45th Space Wing's Public Affairs phone number: 321-494-5933.  They'll be able to either find the ship's name and get back to you or put you in touch with the appropriate Coast Guard contact.  Alternatively, you could try Public Affairs at the USCG, but that's probably going to be a slower route.
