This satellite is named "Longyuan Water Conservancy No. 1" and will be launched next month. What are its capabilities?

China Gansu Net, July 8 (Northwest Corner, China Gansu Net reporter Song Fangke) On July 8, at the 30th Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair, the Gansu Provincial Water Resources Department and Aerospace Hongtu Information Technology Co., Ltd. signed a satellite naming agreement. The first commercial water conservancy remote sensing satellite in Gansu Province will be launched at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at the end of August this year.

The "Longyuan Water Conservancy No. 1" satellite is the first commercial remote sensing satellite serving the provincial water conservancy department. It has the characteristics of province-wide coverage, dynamic monitoring, precise positioning, and situational awareness, which helps the construction of digital twin water conservancy.

The satellite has wide-band imaging capabilities, and a single remote sensing image can cover an area of up to 100*100km2, which can meet the rapid coverage of remote sensing images across the province. In addition, the satellite supports on-demand customization, and emergency dispatch can be carried out after the target area is determined to meet emergency monitoring needs.

At the same time, the "Longyuan Water Conservancy No. 1" satellite is a radar satellite, and data collection is not affected by cloudy and rainy weather, making it an ideal data source for water conservancy business. After networking with satellites of the same series, flood disaster monitoring and dynamic monitoring of surface water resources can be gradually realized once a day or even once an hour.

The "Longyuan Water Conservancy No. 1" satellite also has high-resolution imaging capabilities, with the highest resolution of remote sensing images reaching 0.5m, and can accurately obtain the location and range of water conservancy objects with an area greater than 3mē.

Niu Jun, secretary of the Party Committee and director of the Gansu Provincial Water Conservancy Department, said that at present, Gansu Province is accelerating the construction of the "three lines of defense" for rain and water monitoring and forecasting composed of meteorological satellites and rain radars, rain gauges, and hydrological stations, and vigorously implementing smart water conservancy construction. Aerospace Hongtu Company is a leading satellite Internet company in China, with rich experience in flood and drought disaster warning and forecasting, water conservancy digital twins, water conservancy safety supervision and other fields, and has obvious technical advantages. The signing of this strategic cooperation agreement is an organic combination of "water conservancy needs" and "enterprise capabilities", which can be said to be timely and appropriate. In particular, the "Longyuan Water Conservancy No. 1" satellite is the first commercial remote sensing satellite in the country to serve the provincial water conservancy department. It has the characteristics of dynamic monitoring, precise positioning, and situational awareness. It will greatly help Gansu Province to improve the modern rainfall monitoring and forecasting system and enhance the level of water conservancy informatization in the province.

According to reports, the "Longyuan Water Conservancy No. 1" satellite is one of the radar satellites that plans to launch 54 business satellites in the first phase of the "Nuwa Constellation" project. The first batch of 4 radar remote sensing satellites were successfully launched at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center on March 30, 2023.

The "Longyuan Water Conservancy No. 1" satellite is expected to be launched at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at the end of August this year, and the "Longyuan Water Conservancy No. 2" satellite will follow. After the two satellites are networked, they will accurately locate and dynamically detect the water conservancy system in Gansu Province, and escort the high-quality development of the water conservancy system with intelligence and digitization.
The one of payloads is Longyuan Shuili-1 (陇原水利一号), and might be launched from Jiuquan not Taiyuan.

The first satellite of the "Zhuzhou Constellation" will be launched in mid-to-early November. From now on, there will be a satellite named after Zhuzhou in the sky.

In early to mid-November, four satellites named after the Zhuzhou industrial zone will be launched. As the first satellites of the "Zhuzhou Constellation" (Zhuzhou Tianyuan, Zhuzhou Lusong, Zhuzhou Liling, and Zhuzhou Tianxin), they will be launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center using a four-satellite launch.

The third Beidou Large-Scale Application International Summit will be held in Zhuzhou. Recently, reporters came to the Hunan Beidou Industrial Park in Zhuzhou to explore the "Zhuzhou Constellation" construction and operation company, Zhuzhou Space Interstellar Satellite Technology Co., Ltd.

Safety monitoring of infrastructure such as roads and dams

The "Zhuzhou Constellation" is a hybrid InSAR satellite constellation system composed of 16 small SAR satellites. It is the first hybrid radar remote sensing satellite constellation in China, with single-satellite high-resolution imaging, multi-satellite high-precision interferometry, on-board image processing and autonomous operation, emergency communication and rapid response, and long-term stable data output. The satellite has high-precision deformation monitoring capability, and the monitoring accuracy can reach the millimeter level at most, which can realize the safety monitoring of infrastructure such as roads, dams, mining areas, and buildings. The satellite can carry out observation tasks such as regular coverage of global areas, rapid revisit of specific areas, high-frequency monitoring of key targets, and emergency calls for special users, supporting and serving the application needs of land resources, earthquakes, disaster prevention and mitigation, basic geographic information acquisition, and forestry.

The first four satellites are X-band radar remote sensing (X-SAR) satellites. The four satellites adopt an equal-phase Walker formation configuration and are evenly distributed on the same orbital plane, which greatly shortens the revisit cycle and coverage observation time. The satellite adopts a sun-synchronous orbit with an orbital altitude of about 522km. The satellite SAR payload adopts a wide-band design, which can achieve extremely high-precision imaging capabilities; the satellite is equipped with a high-precision attitude and orbit control system, which can realize precise orbit control of the satellite and realize the high-precision imaging mission requirements for ground coverage.

What is a SAR satellite?

Tang Daquan, technical director of Zhuzhou Space Interstellar Satellite Technology Co., Ltd., told reporters that SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite is a satellite that uses synthetic aperture radar technology for earth observation. SAR satellites are like our eyes in space, providing us with continuous, large-scale, unobstructed images of the earth and showing surface changes in detail. SAR satellite technology has unique application value in many fields such as disaster prevention and mitigation, geological surveying and mapping, land resources, agriculture, forestry and water conservancy, urban planning, ocean monitoring and research, and has become one of the most widely used earth observation technologies in the world.

The working principle of SAR satellites is similar to the echolocation mechanism of bat flight. They both perceive the environment by transmitting signals and receiving reflected signals. The working principle of SAR satellites enables it to have more powerful earth observation capabilities than optical remote sensing satellites. It can achieve all-day and all-weather imaging without being affected by weather and light. At the same time, it has strong penetration ability and can detect obscured ground information through clouds or vegetation. With the continuous development of SAR satellites, its application scope has expanded rapidly and has an irreplaceable role.

A total of 16 satellites will be launched before March next year

The launch of the "Zhuzhou Constellation" marks that Zhuzhou Space Interstellar Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. has embarked on a high-speed track. A total of eight satellites will be launched in November and December this year, and eight satellites will be launched in March next year. By then, Space Interstellar will become the country's largest radar remote sensing satellite service provider. At the same time, the satellite's revisit time will be increased to 2.5 hours, and the national data can be refreshed in less than a month.

Zhuzhou Space Interstellar Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. signed a contract to move into the Hunan Beidou Industrial Park in 2022. With the construction of the "Zhuzhou Constellation" as the driving force, it has built a complete measurement, operation and control system and satellite data production service system, and has the remote sensing satellite data capabilities from satellite data transmission, standard product production to industry application. The whole process provides users with a comprehensive solution for space remote sensing information applications.
The payloads as below will be launched in first of November, it is not sure by Lijian-1 on November 5 or maybe CZ-2D on November 6...

Zhuzhou will send 16 satellites into space

Recently, Guo Zhenjie, a senior engineer of Zhuzhou Space Interstellar Satellite Technology Co., Ltd., conducted a thorough test of the satellite at the Shanghai Academy of Space Technology to prepare for the launch of the first batch of satellites of the "Zhuzhou Constellation" next month.

"The first batch of satellites shipped this time consists of 4 SAR satellites, named "Tianyuan", "Lusong", "Liling" and "Tianxin" respectively." Guo Zhenjie introduced that this group of satellites can perform tasks such as high-resolution imaging and deformation monitoring, that is, "take pictures" of the earth through "Beidou + remote sensing".

"Zhuzhou Constellation" is a satellite constellation system composed of 16 small SAR satellites, which are expected to be launched in March next year. By then, the number of SAR satellites in orbit of Space Interstellar will reach the first in China and the top three in the world, becoming the largest radar remote sensing satellite service provider in the country.

"After all 16 satellites are launched, the time interval between two consecutive observations of the same location by the satellite can be greatly shortened, and any location in the country can be revisited within 2.5 hours, enhancing the efficiency of imaging monitoring and deformation measurement on a global scale." Tang Daquan, technical director of Space Interstellar, introduced.

With the ability to quickly revisit, the Zhuzhou Constellation can carry out observation tasks such as high-frequency monitoring of key targets and emergency calls for special users, and support and serve application needs such as land resources, agriculture, forestry, water conservancy, and basic geographic information acquisition. The agricultural department can grasp the harvest and crop damage more timely, and the emergency department can achieve rapid response to disaster prevention and mitigation.

In addition to taking pictures, the Zhuzhou Constellation also has imaging analysis and other functions.

In a grayscale image of the Zhuzhou Beidou Industrial Park returned from a SAR satellite, the Beidou Building is brighter and whiter than the surrounding buildings. "Because the shell of the Beidou Building is made of metal, it can be analyzed through remote sensing imaging." Tang Daquan said that SAR satellites are not affected by weather and light, and can achieve all-day and all-weather imaging, detect obscured ground information through the surface or vegetation, and invert the ground type or terrain surface from the rich radar information.

"This function can 'escort' Zhuzhou's rail transit industry." Tang Daquan introduced that the safe operation of existing high-speed rail lines is very important, especially in mountainous areas. Timely monitoring of geological deformation can avoid many safety accidents.

This year, the "Key Technology of Beidou Multi-Source Fusion Space-Time Enhancement System" submitted by Space Star was selected as one of the "Top Ten Technical Research Projects in 2024" by the Provincial Department of Science and Technology. It will use "Beidou + Remote Sensing" to conduct large-scale deformation monitoring of urban buildings, rail transit, etc.
