KARI: KSLV-III Updates and Discussions
« on: 06/09/2023 01:01 pm »
Thread for all things KSLV-III related since it is an actual program now.

KSLV-III will be a 2 staged SLV with five 100tf (SL) Kerolox SC engines on the first stage and two 10tf (vac) Kerolox SC engines on the second stage, with an option for 3rd stage kick motor. It will most notably launch the Korean Lunar Lander and Orbiter, as well as future KOMPSAT and GEO-KOMPSAT series satellites.

SC Kerolox engine development commenced in 2010. Initial thrust was 8tf and has since then improved to 10tf. It was meant to be used fro KSLV-IIA upperstage but KSLV-IIA was scrapped in 2020 in favor of more ambitious KSLV-III. KSLV-III will also have SC engine developed based on the 9tf prototype on its first stage. Initial thrust goal around late 2010s was 88tf, but has since then increased to 100tf.

short test run of 9tf prototype from 2017

100s test from 2018

600s test from 2019

reignition test from 2021

Different iterations of 9tf Technology Demonstration Models (TDMs). Current iteration is TDM2. TDM program will end by 2024 and KRE-10S is planned for completion by 2027.

Older TDMs were equipped with turbopumps from Yuzhmash until TDM2 and test for Korean turpobumb equipped TDM will start in 2023.
