Is this supposed to be a "classical" scramjet test, or does the name imply something to do with rotating detonation wave engines?

I don't know. This is what the tweet says.

"The S-520-RD1 consists of a single stage of the S-520 sounding rocket and a test specimen for flight tests. After reaching an altitude of about 160 km, the specimen reaches hypersonic speed (Mach number about 5.5) during descent. During this flight, data on aerodynamic heating and supersonic combustion will be acquired."

Launch occurred into replays. S-520 F32 performed nominally. Won't know until press conference on RD-1 success determination and parameters of the hypersonic, supersonic and transonic flight phases of the payload.

Regarding the postponement of the launch of sounding rocket S-520-33 (Part 2)
November 29, 2023 (Reiwa 5)
Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) had scheduled the launch of sounding rocket S-520-33 from the Uchinoura Space Center on Friday, December 1, 2023. We would like to inform you that due to unsuitable weather conditions on the day of the launch, we have decided to postpone it to Saturday, December 2, 2023.

The scheduled launch time is 16:00 (launch time 16:00-16:30 (Japan Standard Time)).

If it is anticipated that the launch will not be possible on the above date and time due to weather or other reasons, we will promptly notify you.

[Reference] Experimental period: November 24, 2023 (Friday) to December 31, 2023 (Sunday) (including preliminary period)

that's all
