Back in April, I speculated on the idea that a single larger vessel could both tow the ASDS, move downrange to pick up the fairings while Octograbber secured the booster and it was safed, and then tow the ASDS back, thus saving on the number of ships.

After over 15 years of wrong predictions (can you say "water tower", anyone?), I may finally have gotten one right.

There's hope yet!

Looks like Bob survived Hurricane Ida.

Here's drone footage of the aftermath.  Bob is visible at 2:09 and again in the background at 3:21.  Clearly any work remaining on Bob will need to happen elsewhere.

New recovery ship Bob is departing Port Fourchon, where it rode out Hurricane Ida, and is heading for the Edison Chouest shipyard in Tampa.

Bob appears to be a missing a satellite dome (see Doug for comparison). Possibly damage from Ida.

Overall, in impressively good looking condition given what it just went through! Of course, looks could be deceiving.

Yep, looks can be VERY deceiving!  If you've never been on a ship tied to a dock in a hurricane (cyclone, whatever..), believe me, it's a mind-blowing experience you never want to go through again!  Even if the ship hasn't sunk (a bonus) there is still potential damage to comms antennas, lifelines, mooring lines, winches, lifeboats/tenders, clogged cooling water intakes and all that kind of fun stuff to deal with later.
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine - however, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are
going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead.

If the boat is all messed up from the hurricane, would they have already put out to sea with it? Twice?

Define "all messed up".  If they needed to repair something you'd wouldn't see in a photo (eg. some part of the navigation, drive or mooring system) and wanted to make sure all was okay - or even if nothing much was wrong at all; they just wanted to get away from the mess for a bit - then, yes, they would.

Offshore rig supply vessels have to be rugged to continue to operate, and stay on station, despite severe adverse weather. These are not coasters, etc, they are tough working boats. I bet they are pretty "hardened" against tough conditions, and damage will be superficial. Maybe the radar dome was a redundant second, and winches designed for pulling oilrigs, will be tough and properly mounted. etc...I do accept there may well be some hidden issues or damage... but I bet its not critical.

They're rugged enough to survive inclement weather out at sea, but that's different from being repeatedly dashed against a dock.

Goodbye GO Quest! The first support ship that SpaceX ever used and a legend of 70+ missions (a record) over 6 years! 😭

SpaceX Fleet veteran GO Quest has departed Port Canaveral for the final time. This ship and her crew were a part of the east coast fleet since rockets were first landed at sea. Fair winds and following seas my friends. You will be missed.
