Pad 39a and CAA tent/hangar from today's KSC tour. There were workers in the CAA tent doing something on the structure inside.

No gators to be seen :(
Loads of turtles though :)

Nice pictures! What would the cranes beside the Fixed Service Structure be doing?

The RSS hinge post has been stripped down to its bare essence. Every single platform, walk-way and gantry has been removed from that structure.
Also, an "in-between" level is being constructed in the second level from the top of the FSS.
Additionally, the FSS is being prepped for raising the slide-wire platform to a higher level on the FSS.

Thanks! Any close up photos of the RSS hinge since everything has been removed from it?

There are some in L2 </plug>, but the shot that was posted in this thread yesterday actually shows the hinge about as clear as you can get from that distance, as you're looking at it straight on.

Crop of that detail below.

Slightly different anglefrom today's Explore KSC tour.

Hint: if you're doing the Explore Tour (one of the add-ons) pack a telephoto lens if you want a peek inside the crew access arm tent or just have some really good photos of the CCAFS pads.

And an even better view of the barren RSS hinge post in vandersons image. See below

Update article on state of play. Most are aware given you can't miss the cranes, but needed to write it up.

https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2018/07/spacexs-39a-upgrades-dragon-2-crew-launches/

Added a bit about the notional ideas for BFR at 39A given that would be the next step after Dragon 2 mods.

Thanks to Woods170, Nathan for the latest pics and Jay for the render I used.

Posted on twitter yesterday:

Nothing surprising to see here; just figured I'd snap some shots of #SpaceX's pad 39A as we drove by today. Nice to see the operation from a vantage point other than the press site every now and then.

EDIT (from Chris G): Corrected the link to Emre Kelly's twitter, where the updated photos came from originally (not US Launch Report).

Would love some of our own, so if you're in the area or on the tour, snap some pics of the arm.

That is one seriously slick looking CAA. A perfect companion to the styling of Crew Dragon.

It does look nice, but it's going to look a little odd on the more Brutalist-styled FSS don'tcha think?

I believe that they are planning to enclose the FSS... if their animations are any indication.

Great pictures! :) Do they plan on hoisting it and attaching it shortly?

Everything seems to indicate they will.
But early confirmation could come from people doing the bus tour and post pictures here. If anyone is planning the bus tour at KSC, sit on left side.

Yes, that is still the plan.

Indeed. But the FSS is going to be enclosed anyway, so it will be odd-looking for a limited amount of time only.

IMO yes. It has been sitting in a tent near the pad for quite some time. The only sensible reason to bring it out to the pad is to install it to the FSS.
