https://europeanspaceflight.com/isar-confirms-hot-fire-testing-has-commenced-at-andoya/

Some good news.

Quote
German rocket builder Isar Aerospace has told European Spaceflight that the company is “currently performing hot fire tests of the first and second stages” that will be used for the inaugural flight of its Spectrum rocket.

[...]

“All components of our launch vehicle Spectrum have arrived in Andøya and the final preparations for the first test flight of Spectrum are in full swing,” an Isar Aerospace spokesperson said. “We are currently performing hot fire tests of the first and second stages. These tests will determine whether the systems meet all the necessary requirements for the first test flight.”

[...]

On September 19, SpaceNews reported that during a World Space Business Week panel, Isar COO Stella Guillen stated that the company was “targeting for sure this year” for the inaugural flight of Spectrum. However, the spokesperson talking to European Spaceflight was less inclined to make that prediction.

“Depending on the results of these tests, and when we will receive the NCAA license, we will carry out the first test flight as soon as possible.”

Although I hope they'll be a bit more transparent with these tests, whether they succeed or fail.

- There was no road closure on the 24th.
- There was no road closure on the 25th.
- There's been no update on further road closures. Given the silence, it's possible they are taking a break from testing, or that they have performed the tests they want. Or that something went a bit wrong on the 23rd. Really hard to say, but it's looking like they won't be doing any more tests right now.

They texted me today about planned activites, so it's looking like they are back at it again.  If I understand correctly, there are possible road closures:

- October 9th, 10:00-24:00
- October 10th, 17:30-24:00
- October 11th, 00:00-04:00 and 17:30-24:00
- October 12th, 00:00-04:00 and 17:30-24:00
- October 13th, 00:00-04:00 and 17:30-24:00
- October 14th, 00:00-04:00 and 17:30-24:00
- October 15th, 00:00-04:00 and 17:30-24:00
- October 16th, 00:00-04:00 and 17:30-24:00
- October 17th, 00:00-04:00 and 17:30-24:00
- October 18th, 00:00-04:00 and 17:30-24:00
- October 19th, 00:00-04:00 and 17:30-24:00
- October 20th, 00:00-04:00

It seems like these closures will be more intermittent, the website says 40 minutes at a time. And it's interesting that they are now avoiding regular working hours.

Also, this time they seem to have added a danger zone in the waters off the launch site. Maybe the previous tests were just tanking tests, and this time they are going to light the stages? So just in case there is an event like the not-so-static test firing in China, the area is clear.

The road closed 20:33 CET today, October 10th. 40 minute road closure doesn't seem to be the case. It's still closed 2.5 hours later.

Edit: The road reopened at 00:25 CET, October 11th.

There is a nice article from a few weeks ago that gives a good overview of what ISAR is doing here , it's in German but it should be easy enough to translate webpages these days.

The article is written for a newspaper, so explains a lot for people not familiar with spaceflight, but they have quotes from people in the company and some interesting background here and there.
-The goal is not the first flight, but the 100th flight
-About three-quarters of the engine is manufactured using a 3D printing process
-First flight as soon as possible, doing last tests, if then the launch permit from Norway is available, it will move fast.

ISAR CEO Daniel Metzler has poor knowledge of gobal spaceflight.

The first rockets of the Chinese companies iSpace, Galactic Energy, Space Pioneer and Orienspace (Hyperbola-1, Ceres-1, Tianlong-2 and Yinli-1) actually made it to orbit.

To be fair, all of these partially used government/legacy-company-provided engines on some of their stages (CASC upper liquid stage on Hyperbola 1st launch, CASC-AALPT YF-102 on Tianlong S1, CASC-AASPT SRBs on Yinlin and Ceres), by that standard, the private Pegasus also succesfully launched the first time in 1990.

Road past the launch site was closed 22:00 CET to 22:59 CET on October 15th.

Edit: Oh, and just noticed they've enacted flight restrictions for UAVs in a 2.7 Nautical Mile radius around the launch site, going up 2500 ft from October 14th through December 31st 2024. Maybe they've had issues with people flying drones.

It's been quiet. It doesn't seem like they've performed any more tests.

Though they have added two new test periods. Current possible test times are:

October 24th, 12:00-20:00 CET
October 27th, 12:00-20:00 CET
October 28th, 12:00-20:00 CET
October 29th, 12:00-20:00 CET
October 30th, 12:00-20:00 CET
October 31th, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 1st, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 2nd, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 3rd, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 4th, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 5th, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 6th, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 7th, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 8th, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 9th, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 10th, 12:00-20:00 CET
November 11th, 12:00-20:00 CET

https://andoyaspace.no/info-messages/periodevis-stenging-av-fv-7698-2/

Now there doesn't seem like there's a hazard area off the coast, and they have also added a notice that bystanders can expect up to a few minutes per day of heightened sound levels, perceived as "rumbling interspaced with crackling sounds". So stuff is progressing, it seems.

Given that the sound notice is new, maybe they've only done tanking tests and the like thus far, and only now they are getting into engine firings. Or maybe they got complaints/questions and added the additional information. Either way, they are at least now definitely into engine firing tests.
