Mr Renfrew - Very pleased with where we go to at the end of the day.

Did a quick IFM with the seal on the LiOH on Bowen's suit. Another outstanding job by the crew. Ended the day with the big arm in the undock config, which means we're done with big arm docks for this mission.

Had a bit of a hiccup with Drew's helmet lights on the EMU. Were at the end of the activities anyway, so decided to send Al back to the airlock and Steve to do his final task.

Accomplished all of the tasks with the PMM, clearing the corridor and putting stowage behind the ("jail wires").

Half day off tomorrow.

Questions.

Mark on Russian CO2 repair work.

Mr Renfrew - Our Russian friends have been going through an extensive IFM and accomplished all of their tasks. Should be up and running at the same time as CDRA - to get to full capability. Plenty of margin to scrub CO2 regardless for the plus one day (Shuttle scrubbers and METOX, LiOH etc.

Bill on the same, long term plan...

Mr Renfrew - What they are doing now is specifically what they've been trained to do. Doing IFM on the pump. Not sure of long term replacement.

Robert on another plus one day - as reported here: http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2011/03/misc-tasks-final-spacewalk-plus-1-day-option/

Mr Renfrew - Discovery has plenty of consumables. There's been some conversation about it but I was busy with the EVA.

Gina on the helmetcam on Steve's EMU.

Mr Thomason - not exactly sure what happened. Same signature as EVA-1.

Bill on extra day (+1+1)

Mr Renfrew - if we approved it we would use to continue to transfer hardware from the PMM and trash into HTV-2

Marcia on Node 3 CDRA

Mr Renfrew - There's a Dash 2 bed. The one we brought up was a Dash 3 bed. Dash 2 beds are getting close to their time (limit) on orbit. 134 brings up another Dash 3 bed. Will insert Dash 3 from 133 into the CEDRA. Nothing wrong with the Dash 2 bed, just coming to its time limit.

On mission requirements.

Mr Renfrew - I'm a happy FD. We've accomplished all the main tasks. The remainder of the mission is about getting the ISS in the best situation. So we have a lot of work to do. Maybe not as glamorous as EVAs and module installs, but just as important.

Bill on private chat with 133 commander.

Mr Renfrew - was a good opportunity, hadn't had time before. Took the opportunity to ask him how everything was going. He was very happy aswell and very excited about it.

Robert on end of shuttle/get-aheads outstanding.

Mr Thomason - We are whittling a list down and it's getting much smaller, and with one more shuttle flight full of EVAs to come.

Over.

Crew heading into pre-sleep. NTV playing video files.

With tomorrow being half a day off duty we'll have a combined FD8-9 thread, as we usually do mid-mission.

At the top of the hour, NTV will be replaying the crew choice TV as downlinked while the Video File was broadcast.  The FD highlights will start an hour later than on the schedule.

Boom! That'll work!

Excellent - we'll make an event out of that, as every little bit of exposure of this excellent mission is welcomed.

"@whitehouseostp OSTP
Watch @NASA TV tomorrow evening as President Obama calls the ISS and speaks to the combined ISS/Discovery crews (including R2!)"

How's R2 going to get involved. He's still in his box? :D

Thought they moved R2 out today, hopefully he'll be unpacked and ready to go tomorrow.  Sign language.  :)

I thought they moved his box into the lab, but wasn't sure if they had actually unpacked him? Lots of foam to come out etc - into HTV-2. Certainly sounds like he'll make an appearance :)

I was under the impression he wouldn't even be unpacked until the mission was over and ISS crew would do it.

Here's what I know regarding R2:

R2 is wrapped in many pieces of foam, which are all contained inside a metal box - the SLEEPR (Structural Launch Enclosure to Effectively Protect Robonaut). The SLEEPR is again wrapped in foam, and the entire assembly was strapped to an RSP for launch.

Today, the crew removed the SLEEPR from the RSP, and transferred it to the Lab. All the foam and the SLEEPR will be disposed of in HTV-2, so the ISS crew would've had to unpack R2 by March 28th (HTV-2's departure date).

However, given the +1 day extension, and the potential for another +1 day extension, it is possible that the Shuttle crew could've been asked to unpack R2 early, and put the foam in HTV-2.

If they do unpack R2, it certainly won't be powered up for the PAO event, as it'll take months of checkout before it can be used. If it is unpacked, it'll just be in the shot passively.

NASA PAO often confuse the CETA light and CETA cart relationship ???
This time P3 CETA light is not related the CETA carts.

Quote
He then installed a light on one of the small handcars, a crew and equipment translation aid. The astronauts use the carts, mounted on the station’s truss rails, to move objects.

If you watch from 25:02 to 26:23 in this HD video, you can see R2 in his SLEEPR being transferred from the PMM to LAB1P1!

You can see more footage from 2:45 to 3:42 in this HD video, too!

good o2 recharge for Al

Just want to see thanks to all the people who are running this live-forum during the mission. The screenshots in the forum, including data and time were very helpfull for analysing and presentation of my data of my past 2 ground-based observations of an EVA!

Best regards,

Earth based view of STS-133  EVA (Spacewalk) 2

After almost exactly 2 years, another opportunity appeared, to capture a spacewalking astronaut from the ground.
In the years of experiences, I learned that a lot of factors are needed to have a chance to capture a spacewalker.
Aside from a favorable pass, clear weather with acceptable seeing and so on, mainly location and lighting of the
astronaut have to be favorable which means a question of luck. In the 2009 image, it was luck that the astronaut
was in front of an open structure on the Earth-facing side. Now was the luck, the astronaut was mounted on
the SSRMS or Canadarm 2 and was maneuvering in the direction of the Columbus Laboratory for tasks.

On the ground-based image at left you can see the sunlight shining on the Japanese Kibo Lab, you see the same
in the Helmet-cam view of spacewalker Bowen. Further obvious in the ground-based shot is that the Columbus
Laboratory itself is during this pass almost completely invisible, and is probably hidden behind the shadow of
the Shuttle or other big structure of the Station. You see that also in the Helmet-cam shot.

With the Columbus Lab covered in shade, realize that an astronaut in combination with the thick end of the
Canadarm is a considerably big object, and this must be the speck of light we see at the area pointed out.
The screenshot from Bowens Helmet-cam was made just a few minutes before the pass over here. in the
meantime, the astronaut has moved just a little closer to the Lab.

The images are taken during an 84 degrees culmination Northern pass on March 2,  2011. That is exactly
10 degrees more culmination compared to the spacewalk images taken 2009;
