A little bit of trivia if it hasn't already been posted....when the mock stack is completed it will be taller than Cinderellas castle at the Magic Kingdom....

Stick that in your pipe Mouse! Lol!

Wow.. I didn't know that..

Cinderella's castle is much smaller than you think it is.

Cinderella Castle stands 189 feet tall; according to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, the mock-stack stands 184 feet tall.

"That is the most graceful, beautiful vehicle we've ever had to fly in space."

I like that.

And KSC obviously knows how to display that beauty. Very impressive!

From a Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex press release:

The Visitor Complex will open at 9 a.m. and grand opening events will take place throughout the day.

Space Shuttle Atlantis grand opening festivities are included in regular Visitor Complex admission.

The opening ceremonies, per NASA TV's schedule, begin at 9:30 a.m.

Since Atlantis is "in orbit" shouldn't the star tracker doors be open?

And here is a nice view from outside. As you can see now the ET concrete forms is assumed.

In the foreground is a part of the intertank section with the stringers, and in the background you can see the structure of the nose cone-tip,

and here all from a different impressive perspective.

I am pretty sure they removed the Star Tracker so Id think thats why they chose to leave it closed.

Does anyone know what they're doing with the area where Atlantis' wing gets close to the ground?

I'm surprised they didn't do a mock up.  You'd think it would be a lot easier to mock up than SSMEs or the HST.

Here are some progress photos from today. The ET Attachment Ring is mounted on the right SRB,

Source: KSC Visitor Complex

on the Aft Skirts it is also progressing, and in the background is one half of the ET bottom ready.

It looks like the both ends of the SRBs are complete. We can also see the front of the ET now.
