The payload might be Tongxin Jishu Shiyan-16 通信技术试验十六号[/url]

But TJS 16 was launched on CZ-7A on Mar. 29, so TJS 17 maybe?

At 0:47 on April 11, the Long March 3B carrier rocket ignited and launched at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, and then successfully sent the Communication Technology Test Satellite No. 17 into the predetermined orbit. The launch mission was a complete success.

The Long March 3B carrier rocket was developed by the First Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CALT). The Communication Technology Test Satellite No. 17 was developed by the Eighth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (SAST), and is mainly used to carry out multi-band, high-speed satellite communication technology verification.

The Long March 3B carrier rocket belongs to the "gold medal rocket" Long March 3A series of carrier rockets. So far, the Long March 3A series has completed 6 launches in 2025. In order to cope with the high-density launch situation, the launch team adopted cross-parallel and personnel reuse measures to complete the launch site preparation work with high quality and efficiency. The Long March 3B launch vehicle has been continuously optimized. During this mission, the development team improved the process of related products and further improved reliability.

This launch is the 569th launch of the Long March series of launch vehicles.

SAST Manufacturer, LC-3 pad.

I measure about a 1.3 fairing/third stage ratio, indicating this is a CZ-3B/G2, consistent with previous TJSW launches.

CZ-3B leads the world in launches beyond LEO so far this year, with six - more than any other launch vehicle, or for that matter any other country.

Same initial orbit as TJSW-15. Will this one spawn 2025-073C in GEO?

Over the weekend, USA 324, maneuvered into the 152 °E neighborhood—“checking out” its new neighbors TJS-16 and TJS-17.

USA 324 made two close passes— ~17 km to TJS-16 (26 Apr 14:45 UTC) and ~12 km to TJS-17 (29 Apr 13:40 UTC)— before settling down near 152.8 °E.

At both closest-approach times all three satellites were in full sunlight. In each pass, USA 324 was sun-ward of TJS-16 and TJS-17—giving a clear, fully lit view of the TJS pair.
