reminder... update thread.

Safety first, rats, etc. deleted.  Left Helo's "more time" as that is sort of an update I guess????

PS, see the party thread if you don't get the joke there about picks on an expendable mission.

And please use the update discussion thread,.... or the party thread for your comments, questions, quips, etc.

One eager low post count member got two posts deleted. I feel bad. But not that bad.

Edit: I also feel stooopid for saying update when I meant discussion. TWICE!

Not actually official yet, but the way KSC is acting on the notes of roadblocks and preps suggests they are deep into activating the 24 hour scrub turnaround, so another attempt today. Caveat is they can take it down to polling points, so yeah - but let's go with another attempt until we hear different.

A launch tonight and this would still be the shortest time between two launches from Kennedy. Any further delay and the gap from BulgariaSat-1 will be longer than that between Skylab 1 and Skylab 2 (i.e. Skylab itself and its first crew) in May 1973.

ULA and Orbital ATK (and probably other launch providers) rehearse abort procedures for every launch and they don't do static fires.

Congratulations to SpaceX and Intelsat for getting this powerhouse into the planned GTO orbit.

I'm also impressed that this version of Falcon 9 can lift payloads that Falcon Heavy could have launched if not for its own delays.

On one hand, this launch took 3 attempts to get going.  On the other hand, it was still less than 2 weeks after the previous launch from this pad!  Just like how expendable launches have quickly become strange for SpaceX, so too have launch-by-launch delays and extended downtime - makes the range's upcoming multi-week downtime seem absolutely atrocious! :P

Anyways, congratulations to everyone involved in today's launch!  Here's to many more in the future!

Rocket sure looked naked without recovery hardware, which is just the norm now, despite already launching a few like these this year.

Also thought it was nice how John pointed out and thanked on the webcast the eastern range for deferring their maintenance by a day to allow this launch before stand down.

Now it is going to be boring without any SpaceX launches for over a month. We are spoiled now.

(NYSE: I), operator of the world’s first Globalized Network and leader in integrated satellite communications, announced the successful launch of the Intelsat 35e satellite, the fourth of the Intelsat EpicNG high throughput satellites. Intelsat 35e was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle. Liftoff occurred at 7:38 pm EDT. The Intelsat 35e satellite separated from the rocket’s upper stage 32 minutes after launch, at 8:10 pm EDT, and signal acquisition has been confirmed.

Manufactured by Boeing and equipped with an advanced digital payload, Intelsat 35e will deliver high performance services in C- and Ku-band for wireless infrastructure, mobility, broadband, government and media customers in the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe and Africa. Intelsat 35e will be placed into service at 325.5° East where it replaces Intelsat 903, which will be redeployed to another Intelsat orbital location by year-end.

The Intelsat EpicNG fleet is designed to deliver more efficiency for satellite broadband service providers, providing improved performance and economics that allows customers to explore new applications and new business models to grow their businesses. Companies including Orange, INWI, Tele Greenland, Sonatel, Marlink, Speedcast, ETECSA and eProcess will be among the first to deploy services on the satellite once it is placed into service. Intelsat 35e also includes a tailored payload for direct-to-home (DTH) television services for Canal+, a leading provider of DTH services in the Caribbean.

“The successful launch of Intelsat 35e is a major milestone in our business plan for 2017, furthering the footprint and resilience of our Intelsat EpicNG infrastructure,” said Stephen Spengler, Chief Executive Officer, Intelsat. “With each Intelsat EpicNG launch, we advance our vision of creating a global, high performance for our customers that will unlock new growth opportunities in applications including mobility, wireless infrastructure and private data networks. As we further our innovations with respect to ground infrastructure and managed service offerings, like IntelsatOne Flex, we are transforming the role of satellite in the telecommunications landscape.”
