Nice article :)

I noticed this link "managed to extract two still frames, but judged the error rate too high to allow further recovery." is broken, missing the first "h"

Great effort!

You guys should work on the russian Mars landing video from 1971 to see what you can recover.

This is flying on twitter.

Some SpaceXers retweeting, but a good one is Rob Pegoraro @robpegoraro with the mention.

I am so proud to be a member of this community, if not the recovery! Great job everyone, it's been just as exciting checking this thread every few hours to follow the progress and pour over each newly restored frame as it is to follow the launch threads!

A sincere thank you for all the effort that everyone has put in that's allowed me to live so vicariously!

Here's the technical feature article - by the team's Lourens Veen!

The effort you all put in to bring this video back is truly inspiring. Incredible footage.
Nothing less than a labour of love to make this achievement possible.

Bravo!

I have been at an Oracle conference in Seattle all week and have been too busy.  I am on the plane home now and compiling the results of the hours survey, I will post something on the forum tomorrow.

The keynote speaker at the conference spoke on the power of crowdsourcing from volunteer technical people to do social good ... such as visualizing display of disease or poverty statistics, automating the location of abandoned swimming pools where mosquitoes breed and spread malaria, and such.  I talked with him afterward and told him that this has been a classic data cleansing activity that exemplifies many of the things he advocates.  I sent him links to the forum, wiki, etc.

Let's stay in touch.  We could all continue to do great stuff together.

Mike
