Now this is neat...

http://issaudio.project10.net/iss_20091115-070000-002.wav and start listening about 7 minutes in. Sounds like there's a tradition on slow Sunday mornings to call down and interview random people in the ISS control room. Just a "meet and greet" sort of chat.

With the UPA (Urine Processing Assembly) hard failed, FE-2 offloaded the WSTA (Waste Storage Tank Assembly) to 2% to prepare for the upcoming removal of the failed (DA) Distillation Assembly. [For the draining, Nicole donned silver shield gloves, dust mask and goggles then operated the Pre-treated Urine T-Valve to offload the urine to an EDV-U container.]

Stott also prepared for the replacement of the failed HRF USND (Human Research Facility / Ultrasound) board by removing bolts from the USND front panel.

Using the WRS FTP (Water Recovery System / Fluid Transfer Pump), Jeff Williams transferred stored water to supplement the WPA (Water Processor Assembly) Waste Water Tank.

Just as a follow up for future reference, here's the index of the translated blog in RussiaToday:

Ask Frank de Winne: What is a typical working day on the ISS like?

ESA astronaut Frank De Winne answers this question and others on ESA's YouTube channel.

You can also send in your question!

WPA Failure: Towards the end of yesterday's WPA (Water Processor Assembly) process cycle, WPA failed (transitioned to “Warm Shutdown”) due to low water level in the MLS (Mostly Liquid Separator). Engineers met today to review the data and assess further water processing. For now, the crew was advised to continue the current potable water usage split, i.e., all six crewmembers using the RS (Russian Segment) for their ambient water and a 3/3 split for hot water.

WPA Status Update: WPA (Water Processor Assembly) was reactivated and processed approximately 15 lb of water. System response has not been nominal, with lower than expected pressures continuing. Ground engineers are loading new overrides to allow operation at a reduced flowrate (10 lbs/hr).

This isn't directly relevant to Expedition 21, but this is the best place to post it:

Has anyone else realised that today (Fri 20th Nov) is the 11th anniversary of the ISS (the first module, Zarya, launched on 20th Nov 1998)! ;D

PAO did, as they ran video of the liftoff a little while ago.

False Alarms Issue: False ISS depressurization alarms annunciated last night. It was verified that no leak occurred. The cause is under investigation. The false depressurization alarms caused the ISS ventilation system to shut down. This is believed to have allowed dust settling in COL (Columbus Orbital Laboratory) to trigger a false fire alarm. All systems have been returned to nominal configuration. Shuttle did not receive the ISS alarms. The cause is under investigation.

WPA Update: The Water Processing Assembly produced about 8 Liters yesterday while running at a low rate (about 10 lbs/hr). The WPA speed is being increased incrementally.

False Alarm Recurrence:   False ISS dP/dt (depressurization) alarms sounded again last night, and it is now known that the MRM2 Poisk is triggering the depress response, but the root cause of why or how is still unknown.  The false depressurization alarms caused the ISS ventilation system to shut down, which triggered a false fire alarm due to dust settling in smoke detectors when the IMV (Intermodular Ventilation) went down.  The first night, COL (Columbus Orbital Laboratory) sensors were the culprit, and last night the A/L sensor.  All systems have been returned to nominal configuration.  Shuttle did receive the ISS alarms this time.  RSC-Energia engineers at TsUP-Moscow are working hard on a solution to prevent MRM2 from causing further disruptions, having already sent up inhibits to the three manual alarm commanding for MRM2 (dP/dt, fire & toxic atmosphere) to minimize the possibility for false alarms from MRM2.  The new MRM2 control panel is currently off limits.  During the dP/dt, the US A/L (Airlock) also had a fire indication that terminated O2 flow to the PBA (Prebreathe Assembly) masks.  Since it would have taken too long to recover the A/L to continue the Campout at 10.2 psi, it was decided to proceed using the EVA exercise prebreathe protocol for EVA-2 instead.

WPA Update:   The Water Processing Assembly processed about 26 liters yesterday (FD5).  There is enough potable water to supply ISS needs for the remainder of the docked mission.  WPA automatically shut down as a result of the alarms and there is no plan to activate again until Monday.

False Alarms Update: The crew test-activated the three MRM2 panel buttons (Fire, dP/dt, Toxic). Unexpectedly, all three messages were displayed by the U.S. C&C MDM (Command & Control Multiplexer/Demultiplexer computer) in the US C&W (Caution & Warning) display (US auto response was inhibited per the test plan). With the Russian inhibits in place, this was not expected to be seen on the USOS side. The MRM2 C&W panel power is now turned off for the remainder of the docked period to keep that panel from kicking off emergency responses.

For the ISS crew, now reduced to five persons, a role change has taken place after Shuttle hatch closure. With Expedition 21 ending and Expedition 22 beginning, the Soyuz TMA-15/19S crew of Romanenko, De Winne & Thirsk has become the non-prime crew, slated to depart on 11/30, and the Soyuz TMA-16/20S crew of Suraev & Williams are now prime, with Jeff Williams having taken over the role of ISS CDR from Frank De Winne. The crew has conducted their commensurate briefing on prime/non-prime emergency procedures, and the appropriate emergency procedure books have been transferred to their respective Soyuz vehicles. With this, Expedition 22 is off to a great start! (ISS On-Orbit Status 11/25/09)

MRM2 False Alarms Update: Due to the MRM-2 false emergency events, MCC-Houston has developed and uploaded a software patch to the C&C MDM (Command & Control Multiplexer/Demultiplexer computer) which prevents US software to respond to an MRM2 manual emergency event (fire, depress, toxic). Currently, if an MRM2 manual event is triggered, the US software will annunciate a “suppressed” emergency event, and no equipment safings will occur. TsUP-Moscow is planning some tests which may include re-activating the MRM2 C&W (Caution & Warning) Panel. During these tests, the US software configuration will remain as described above, so if the crew needs to annunciate a real manual emergency event, they will use the USOS C&W Panel, SM PSS (C&W) panel, or a PCS (Portable Computer System) laptop. MRM2 troubleshooting is proceeding.
