If Falcon Heavy was a Rock n Roll super group who would be in it?  Discuss.   ;D

Why did we waste so much time developing silly rockets? Damn you, aliens! So obtuse! You have all this crazy tech, but can't speak English!?

Scylla, I read that and thought you made it up (It's April 1st), and thought it was hilarious. Than I clicked the link, expecting a rickroll or similar, and see he really did tweet that.  ;D 8)

Would you buy a used rocket from this man?

OMG.....

I think that needs to go up on a wall at work somewhere.
I about fell out of my chair.....
I book of faces'ed it:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/spacexgroup/permalink/10155247401606318/

We are beginning to see the designs of Elon, the evil genius...  (pinkie firmly planted in corner of mouth)

The fairing will deploy cold-gas thrusters and small pop-out grid fins to stabilize into a flyable aeroshell, navigating to a selected capture zone. At which point, the very large airship will open up it's large under slung cargo hold and the fairings will fly in and be caught in nets. The airship will then make its way to Elon's secret volcano lair ... which opens up it's hidden landing pad area, etc. Submarines or fast boats will return the shells to shore for additional processing.

 8)

I was really close here...
    thrusters (check - sort of)
flyable aeroshell  (sort of again, check)
airship = really large bouncy castle  (check)

volcano lair ... welllll, we don't know the whole plan yet, really so I still have a shot.

 8)

If he's in the market for a secret volcano lair I'd recommend the South Sandwich Islands, probably Saunders.  What do they have going for them that an aspiring supervillain like Musk might like?

 * Remote
 * Rarely visited
 * Rough seas and fierce storms
 * Towering cliffs of rock and ice
 * The essential "huge active volcanoes" for your boring machines to build a lair in.
 * On Saunders, an added bonus: it's believe that the top of Mount Michael has one of the world's few persistent lava lakes. But it's so little explored that nobody knows for sure, we just have hot pixels on IR images to go by.
 * Huge population of penguins for you to Neuralink up as your minions.
 * If you want to launch some conquer-the-world doomsday weapon you're going to want it on a polar orbit so that it can target all locations on the planet from a low altitude with frequent passes - so you don't need an equatorial site.
 * Disputed territory - opportunities to play the UK and Argentina off against each other as part of your Machiavellian schemes.
You are going too hollywood for your secret volcano lairs.

Elon needs to build a launch facility into Chimborazo. near-zero inclination, almost as low air pressure at the peak as Everest. And an inactive volcano for his volcano lair.

The sad thing is: I recognize only one name on that list and that's because they made a SpaceX parody out of his biggest hit.  Am I a geek?

According to Jeff Foust, Elon said might be "fun to try a Hail Mary" and recover the second stage.
I fully expect SpaceX to announce the hiring of a new intern to help them with the Hail Mary.
Shouldn't reality posts be in "Advanced concepts"?  --Nomadd

Falcon Heavy demo in mid-late  summer?  Silly payload you say? Core on OCISLY?

My apologies to all Spacex, KSC, SES, workers involved in this launch. All the launch imperfections the burnt grid fins and loss of video can all be attributed to....
I jinxed it :(
Opened the celebratory beer during terminal count.
Yep total rookie move- such arrogance on my part- I feel terrible. I'm sorry.
My only explanation is:
Who wants to watch history being made without a beer in had.
It's cool. I wore my special lucky SpaceX hoodie all day and crossed my fingers extra hard, so I'm pretty sure you can be forgiven for your beer based transgression  ::)  ;D

I vote for a gigantic (>250M diameter) inflatable pig placed in a slowly decaying LEO or a sparsely populated MEO.
Launches attended: Worldview-4 (Atlas V 401), Iridium NEXT Flight 1 (Falcon 9 FT), PAZ+Starlink (Falcon 9 FT), Arabsat-6A (Falcon Heavy)
Pilgrimaged to: Boca Chica (09/19 & 01/22)

Well, that's far better than a slowly decaying pig in a sparsely populated inflatable habitat.

Totally off topic...

Whats the difference between LARS and LARS-J.
This is the first time I noticed you were different people.
You both seem very knowledgeable.

He's LAR (not Lars). :) Not the same person. He is a mod, I am not. I'm an armchair opiniator shouting at windmills.  ;)

Who is LARS ???

I am Lar (short for Larry) I'm a mod. And not that knowledgable. I just act like I am, and get shot down a lot.
Lars-J is some other guy, not a mod, but smarter than me.  However, I have more LEGO elements and sets than he does. so there's that. But he has a cool avatar...  (Benny is cool... but the shuttle sets are cooler)

What are LEGOs? never heard of those things.

I, however think that LEGO elements are nifty, and LEGO sets are cool, and the LEGO company is pretty awesome. So's the owner.

Here's a pic of him, with MY model sitting on his desk after he built it from a kit I designed.
