Finished my 1/72 scale model of Mercury-Redstone 1. The "Four Inch Flight" or "Tower Flight" November 21,1960. After the tower shot off, the Mercury Capsule popped its top, deploying the parachutes, that then hung down the side of the rocket, making a dangerous situation even worse. Of course, being me, I built two capsule to swap out. One has the escape tower pre-launch and the other has the antenna fairing flying up, and parachute starting to deploy. I also like the short checker board and higher location of the "United States". It would make it visible with frost on the lower tank, unlike the later Redstones.

Rendezvous in Space. On December 15, 1965, Gemini 6 met up with its sister ship, Gemini 7, that had been in space since December 4. I finished my model of Gemini 6 today, and re mounted my Gemini 7 model on a new base to depict this historic flight. Gemini 6 has a "Beat Army" sign in the window. An inflight joke, most likely instigated by astronaut Wally Schirra, who was a Navy man! Both kits are vintage Revell 1/48 scale, modified by Realspace Models parts. And a few scratch-built bits. Decals by Rick Sternbach's Space Model Systems.

Gemini 7 to the left, Gemini 6 to the right.

1:Looking over the top of Gemini 7 at Gemini 6

2:"Beat Army" Strangely enough, the decals also came with a "Beat Navy" sign. (You can barely see Tom Stafford behind the sign! LOL)

3:Both spacecraft, face on. If you look real carefully in the right window of the right spacecraft, Gemini 6, you can see Wally peeking out!

All the actual flown Gemini spacecraft I have built in 1/48 scale. Clockwise from upper right, Gemini 3, Gemini 12, Gemini 6&7 and Gemini 9.

Gemini is a very special program to me.  The first memories I have of spaceflight are those of seeing images of the "Angry Alligator" of Gemini 9 on TV.

I still hope to build a couple more, Gemini 4 and Gemini 5.

I'm pretty sure Borman put up a Beat Navy sign, since he was a West Pointer, even though he went into the USAF.

BTW, last weekend ARMY BEAT navy!  Two in a row after a 14 year draught!

I received my trophy from Horizon Models for the 2017 Space Pioneers model contest!  It is picture with the models I won with and the first three kits I got as a prize.  I will also receive any new releases they make this year.

In honor of the upcoming 50th Anniversary of Apollo 5, I built a model of LM-1 in 1/72 scale.  It uses a heavily modified Airfix kit.  I have been wanting to do this for a long time, but then I had a friend do a similar build, so I got motivated!

Back in June of 2014, I showed a model of the Falcon Heavy I was building in an old thread here.  Obviously, it was way before we saw the real thing.  Back then, threads here described the boosters as being longer than the core, which obviously we know now is not true either.  So, I have decided to dig it up, not that it was hard to find, and "fix" it now that we have the real thing here.  I have always intended to do that, I just never thought it would be so long!

Here is the original build.  It was built using 3D printed parts from Shapeways, and plastic tubes and rods.  It is done the old fashion way!

So, I had to cut the boosters down and shorten them to the same height.  I then added the 3D printed legs and fin grids.  The I had to add the cross beam supports and other details.  It is about ready for the first coat of paint.

Here are my other Falcon models.

Ron, I can't tell from the picture you posted.  But, wanted to be sure you had noticed the difference between the grid fins on the side boosters and the main core booster.  The side cores will use the new titanium grid fin design which is both a bit larger and has the scalloped edge on its leading face when deployed.
Shouldn't reality posts be in "Advanced concepts"?  --Nomadd

I know, but unfortunately, the 3D parts on Shapeways only has one size available at this time.  If i ever get own printer, I can make my own!

I've made the Block 4 grid fins available, although only in one part that also contains the legs at the moment. If you want a set of just the grid fins, let me know.
