The brand: Blue Bell. The flavor: Sundae (vanilla with chocolate sauce swirl).

Ice cream for ISS: Frozen dessert flying on station-bound SpaceX Dragon
http://www.collectspace.com/news/news-100612a.html

Ice cream is blasting off for the crew of the International Space Station (ISS).

The frozen confectionery — not the freeze-dried souvenir version sold in museum gift shops — is packed on board the first NASA contracted commercial mission to resupply the orbiting laboratory.

Awesome!

So.. stupid question: does anyone know when SpaceX's webcast is starting tomorrow?

Human spaceflight is basically just LARPing now.

I saw 7:55 pm EDT somewhere.

Testing..

Edit:  All right!  Thanks, Chris-A.  I'd been having trouble figuring out VLC.  Do you know what address I should use for the SpaceX webcast?

It's probably been mentioned before, but what's the deal with the baseball bat?

According to http://www.spacex.com/webcast/ (scroll down):
"Coverage Begins on Sunday Oct. 7 at 7:55pm ET"

And on the really important topic, can anyone provide a first-hand review of Blue Bell? "A strong fan base in Houston" could just mean people there don't share the politics of Ben and Jerry, or Double Rainbow. Are we talking "super premium" here, or just a step up from the Good Humor brand sold from ice cream trucks?

Not only have I never had it, but I'd never even heard of it before today.

And this is the second time I've seen it today.  Somebody mentioned buying it on another blog I was reading earlier.   :o

They got a website you know.  http://www.bluebell.com/

Living in Illinois, it is not available in my local supermarkets, but I have had Blue Bell brand novelty Items from vending machines, Ice cream sandwiches and the like. Not bad, as good as any other I suppose.

ah, thank you trying it out on your end.

The livestream links are generated on the start of an webcast.

Install this plugin (firefox if possible), http://www.flashvideodownloader.org

Try and view the video on a separate page ("about X hours ago"), for example.
http://new.livestream.com/spacex/CRS1/videos/4530165
and then check out the plugin window for the link, and then copy the link to clipboard.

I noticed the streaming video quality from Akamai and Ustream isn't the greatest with fast monition video. I believe the source might be the problem.  :-\

Who would have thunk it? Thanks for the pointer. They claim to be the number three brand in the U.S., and their availability map has the South pretty well blanketed.

As for what kind of ice cream they make, I'll just note their coffee flavor is called, "Coffee." They're not really trying to compete with the flavor known as, "Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz," are they?

I'm using Safari on a Mac.  Does the plugin work with that?  I didn't see any mention of Safari on the site.

When I try to play the livestream video, all I get is the SpaceX logo.

Try this link, http://pastie.org/4925818 (pasted), the seek info is imbedded in the url. I think the value is measured in seconds.

Not long now. Excitement is building.

Some good pictures of the Dragon on the KSC gallery page now.

Looks a bit cloudy when this was taken.

Hoping for beautiful clear skies.

I copied the link in the Pastie window and pasted it into VLC.  It said the video is 1:22:16 long, but when I played it all I saw was this:

Nobody really competes on freshness when stuff is pasteurised.

Anything coming out of a dairy farm I consider to be toxic waste.

I'm going to live to see a Mars mission. It's gonna be a long haul and I have to do my best.  :D

Are you running VLC 2.0.3? you'll need to upgrade, or some other problem exists. Or change the seek to 2230. http://pastie.org/4925979

It seems directly using a live livestream link in VLC will not work. The downloading (I'll use a ram disk to improve speed) method might be the only trick. Yet again the SpaceX feed will lag behind the NASA TV stream.

Falcon and Dragon are in the shed right now. Roll-out in another few hours, according  to the briefing earlier. As I recall, roll-out was as late as 1pm if necessary; as early as 6am if weather indicates that would be a good idea. Local times.
