Russians from the crew of Expedition 40/41 of the ISS – flight engineers Oleg Artemyev and Aleksandr Skvortsov, on August 18 perform spacewalk under the program of the Russian segment of the ISS.

Artemyev and Skvortsov are to open hatches of the Pirs docking module and start EVA at 14:00 UTC, they will return to the ISS at 20:15 UTC.

NASA Television Coverage Set for Russian Spacewalk

Two Russian cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station will venture outside the orbiting outpost Monday, Aug. 18, for a six-and-a-half-hour spacewalk -- the 181st in support of space station assembly and maintenance. NASA TV coverage will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Expedition 40 Flight Engineers Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev of the Russian Federal Space Agency will exit the Pirs docking compartment airlock about 10 a.m. EDT to deploy a small Peruvian science satellite, and install and retrieve science experiments on the exterior of Russian station modules. This will be the second spacewalk for both cosmonauts.

Skvortsov will be designated as extravehicular (EV) crew member 1 and will wear the Orlan suit bearing red stripes. Artemyev will be designated as extravehicular EV-2 and will wear a suit with blue stripes.

Russian cosmonauts will conduct work in open space

August 18, 2014 in accordance with the International Space Station crew members of the Russian segment of the ISS-40/41 Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev in spacesuits "Orlan-MK" will work in open space. The opening of the exit hatch docking compartment "Pierce" (SB-1) is scheduled for 18:00 MSK.

The main objectives of the output:
• Start nanosatellite "NS-1", intended for testing and refinement of the underlying platform and basic electronic modules for space vehicles nanoklassa educational program "Radioskaf" (OAO Rocket and Space Corporation "Energia". Korolev.).

The satellite has dimensions of 100 × 100 × 100 mm, weight 1.5 kg. and transmits data at a frequency of 437,025 MHz amateur radio band. Nano-satellite transmits to Earth in the form of news reports telegraph Morse code identification signal; Images recorded in the memory of the satellite; camera images from space satellite on request from the earth; telemetry (voltage, current, temperature, all the blocks nanosatellite).
• Installation of scientific equipment experiment «Expose-R» to deliver universal workplace II plane working compartment large diameter service module "Zvezda".
• Install the clamp for additional locking mechanical lock adapter remote power active phased array (AESA) II-III between the planes of the ring handrail working compartment large diameter service module "Zvezda".

Installation of the remote unit AFAR held during spacewalks June 19, 2014 to establish a connection with the earth through ISS relay satellites of the "Beam".
• As part of the space experiment "Test" Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev using scientific equipment to collect available on the ISS microorganisms conduct sampling with porthole №13 working compartment of small diameter.
• Set the device BKDO (pressure control unit and deposition) on small research module "Search" (MRM-2).
• Removing the removable cassette container №1-M2 and installing removable cassette tape container №2-M2 MIM-2.
• Removing the space experiment 2a "Endurance" on the MIM-2.
• Removal of the third container "Biorisk-MSN" in the docking bay, "Pierce."
• Conduct photographing screen-vacuum thermal insulation outer surface of the Russian segment of the ISS.

ISS-40/41 Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev to be done on the outside of the station about 6 hours 16 minutes. This is the second output Skvortsov and Artemyev EVA during the expedition. Other crew members - cosmonaut Maxim Suraev Roscosmos, astronauts Steven Swanson, Reid Wiseman (NASA) and Alexander Gerst (ESA) will provide support on board the station.

I'll be covering as much as I can. Will need help for an hour or so around 4-4:30pm GMT, and David will be around for the second half.

As always, it should never be one person, so if we have a few people overlapping at all times, that would be superb!

PAO says they're working the Plume Impingement experiment and then they'll retrieve SKK and Vynoslivost. An hour ahead of the timeline.

Thanks for the great coverage. This EVA probably is the last big event of my 25+years videotaping/dvdr'ing NASA-TV from cable-TV. Our new home 8 miles away only has VERIZON-FIOS,which doesn't bother with NASA...Oh,well, it was fun while it lasted!
