Dial the snark back please.

Sometimes snark is the only appropriate response.

But you see, it's been dialled back. It doesn't have a nuclear warhead.

I came to the Cape to sit on a beach and watch a Falcon 9 launch and land, and all I go to see was this. ;-)

Actually I also saw a wrapped (used?) S1 sitting besides the road in front of hangar A0. What flight was this?

So Elon said a silly payload would go in the Falcon Heavy to orbit. Let me guess: an enormous banner with signatures of all SpaceX employees. Or a preserved Commodore 64. (for some reason the C64 came to mind first, I had one in my youth)

SpaceX is capitalist, they don't launch commies.... (although actually isn't that how Musk got his start, writing a game for a commie??)

You can see that in it "kneeled" position, the frame is down on the deck and the tracks are more proud.

Matthew

Well of course they're proud, they know they're going to be making history soon

Musk did say something silly... I'm thinking half mile in size should be nicely visible.
Gotta get back to work.  Having way too much fun on this stuff.  ;D

Edit: Sentence that could be taken extremely the wrong way deleted.

I'm not even joking, we have a 40' one in our warehouse if Musk wants it...

Those are boosters on the side I think?

Ducks? sure.
Geese? sure.
Just no black swans please, we have had AMOS enough of those.

From the Red Dragon discussion referred above.

Dial the snark back please.
.....

1 - Protip: Don't argue with moderators. Even if you're sure you're right. Even if you're sure you're being really funny. It's not usually a good idea. At all.

"dialing back the snark" made me think of  "Jump the Shark".  I had no clue what the expression meant, so I researched it.

""Jumping the shark" is attempting to draw attention to or create publicity for something that is perceived as not warranting the attention, especially something that is believed to be past its peak in quality or relevance. The idiom "jumping the shark" is almost always used in a pejorative sense."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark

This expression came into existence when the character Fonzie on the show Happy Days "Jumped the Shark" while water skiing.  Apparently after the show was on the air for a really LONNNNNNG time. (ehhhhhhYYYYYYYYY) 8)

With that brief history lesson complete, the question for us all... Is the party thread itself an example of Jumping the Snark?

Speaking of FH demo payloads...  ???

12ft diameter concrete cylinder with S1 grid fins and avionics at top...
Size it weight wise to whatever it can do...
Enclosed in the standard payload fairing...

Launch into orbit... leave S2 attached to payload... make it permanent in fact...

Flip stack over and do a deorbit burn with Mvac...
Then do a reentry burn, as it hits the atmosphere... with Mvac...  :o
IF it makes it transonic in one piece... call it job done...  8)

Oh...  did I mention the landing zone target is some guys palace in North Korea....  ;D
The grid fins are to make sure the MOAR hits the landing zone...  ;)

On edit... it will not work... too top heavy I think...

I had a Vic 20 AND a tape drive.  If I could have launched them into space I would have!  Right this moment I've got a balky dishwasher Musk could have.  It would enjoy a ride uphill! :P

I have realized the ultimate silly thing to send to space.. How about a 45 foot long sculpture of a large hollow horse with Wheels?

Inside, they can place the cowboy in a Dragon 2 space suit and some cheese, and/or a whole lot of very light toys that disperse when the "vehicle" reenters.

Back to the duck for a moment... It would of course have to be reusable to keep the cost down.  Here is the re-entry analysis and image of the landing burn.   ;D

Add 3% habanero to the duck's feed for a hotter burn?

Why bother with LZ-1? Just let it splashdown - it will float after all.......and use the "landing legs" to paddle to shore.
